The first issue of the Guide has finished production, and it looks damn good.

Discuss here!

Guys, I've a few errands to run this morning, as soon as I get in this afternoon, I'll be setting up downloads for the CBGuide.  Once I do, I hope that everyone will spread the word to all the D&D sites they're a part of.
Cheers!

For finite types, like human beings, getting the mind around the concept of infinity is tough going.  Apparently, the same is true for cows.

The first issue is officially up!

Be sure to thank the authors, Natural 20, and Meeps for all their hard work!

Just finished reading the Guide.

First impressions:
The cover and laid are done very well. The only concern I had was the white on white in the table of contents, but that was due to a resolution problem. The images were nicely selected and placed. Overall I like the look and feel of the guide.

Ishy's Introduction:
This was a great way to christen the guide. I liked the message it sends

Reinventing Alchemy:
The article is intriguing and well written, but the mechanics introduced would probable be better served as a class than a set of feats. I know this is counters the articles purpose, to give all classes the ability to use alchemy, but it seems to be to involved to take casually. It's not for me, but was interesting to read.

Light and Darkness:
I stayed away from both the books reviewed in this article, because of all the mixed emotions on various boards. After reading this review, I may have to look into these books myself to see if there is anything that I might use.

Politics and Alignments:
Alignment will be a issue can be defined in many different ways and will be defined by a lot of people for years to come (or atleast until it is no longer part of the system). The author of this article did a good job of explaining his examples.

People and their Names:
When I started reading this article I had high hopes for it, but it turned out to be not much more than a list of NPC's and names of people and things. I was hoping for some explanations or thought processes for coming up with names of peoples, places or things. The NPC's were nice and I liked the background information included with each entry

i liked it. i know i already said it in the tavern, but it wont hurt to say it here, so it lasts longer:

congratulations are in order. to the staff-writers for creating the articles, and to ElDo for bringing it all together. ElDo, again, if it werent for you, this would just be four more threads on the boards. sure, the content would still be as great, but you brought it together as something much more considerable then that.

oh, and just in case anybody is curious, my personal favorite article was the names. first, i can understand and appreciate flavor much easier then i can mechanics, and second, it planted the idea of possibly writing a follow-up article on names (ElDo, message me on aim sometime soon; not tonight, tho, as im headed for bed).

Shout-out to Natural 20, who did most of the legwork when it came to reviewing grammar and content for the Guide.

CYMRO

FIRST IMPRESSION: :wtf:  :ill:

I cannot believe you misspelled my name, at least 5 times.  John, not "Jon".
Hell, you even managed to misspell my last name in part of the OGL section 15!
 :explode:

Aside from that most base editorial sin, it looked good, though I was surprised at the short length, I thought a lot more people submitted stuff.

I'll 'fess up, the first part is my fuckup, the second is an honest mistake by Meeps. They'll be corrected in the "second print", so to speak.

I apologize that through the 40 or so e-mails and PMs that you got the shaft, and you have my deepest apology-- it won't happen again.

Túrin

Just pointing out for those for whom it wasn't already clear: I wrote the article on Politics and Alignment as well as the article on the People and their Names.

@ Poseidotune: Sorry to have disappointed. This article was only intended to be an easy to use quick plug-in for a DM. A follow-up article might be warranted to do some of the things you said.

@ Sdragon: Thanks for liking it. I'd be willing to cooperate on an article that goes into the subject more deeply. Email me at turinthemormegil@gmail.com if you're interested (no AIM here).

Túrin

PS wouldn't it be more sensible to have this thread in a forum that is viewable to non-members?

"Then shall the last battle be gathered on the fields of Valinor. In that day Tulkas shall strive with Melko, and on his right shall stand Fionwe and on his left Turin Turambar, son of Hurin, Conqueror of Fate; and it shall be the black sword of Turin that deals unto Melko his death and final end; and so shall the Children of Hurin and all men be avenged." - J.R.R. Sorry 'bout that Turin, we just created this forum the other day and I forgot to change the permissions.  It's set now.

@Cymro: Sorry about the transcription errors. I should have done more to double-check the material as I was laying it out. A corrected version of the first issue has been passed along to the editorial staff; expect that version to replace the erroneous one in the near future.

Haha. Yeah, I wasn't all that impressed with the content, but I am thrilled that it was actually published. I mean, practice makes perfect, right?
