Quote from: SilvercatMoonpawWhy are we using d20s for this?  I agree with beejazz that it should be d6, and for an important reason taht if you have board games lying around chances are you have a d6 somewhere, whereas you need to go out and get yourself something that rolls d20.

Also it just looks weird to see more than 1d20 ever needed.  I don't think that die was ever intended to be used more than one at a time.  The numbers seem rediculously high.
I'm glad to have some support on the awkwardness of rolling so many d20s.

But for fairness's sake, remember that it's still only a 1-20 range.

QuoteI don't believe in it anyway.
What?
England.
Just a conspiracy of cartographers, then?

As a point of interest while people vote:

A d6 represents a 17% progression in the chance to succeed.
A d8 represents a 13% progression in the chance to succeed.
A d10 represents a 10% progression in the chance to succeed.
A d12 represents an 8% progression in the chance to succeed.
A d20 represents a 5% progression in the chance to succeed.

I like the looks of d10s the most. It's not a really far step from d20s in percentages - 10% chance to roll a certain number, which wouldn't be bad at all if everyone is using them. Combats may be a little faster, maybe a little more brutal. It's not quite as random as the d20 though.

QuoteI'd just like to have less calculating work in the wound points.

Two basic alts:

WP/VP
WP equals 3*(TOUGH + LUCK)
VP equal 10*(TOUGH + LUCK)

or

WP/VP
WP equals 3*(TOUGH)
VP equal 10*(TOUGH + LUCK)

QuoteAnd not have to think about the awkwardness of actually having to roll seven d20s.
It is no more awkward to roll as many d6s.

I do not know any gamer that does not have a full range of dice. I catually, because of minis have as many d20s as d6s.

THE VOTE OF THE MOMENT:
Dice size?
d20, d6, d12, d10?

I vote d20.
A confession: I own no d20s.

Well, damn! That nixes that.
I have some spares... ;)

So if the base die is a d6, how does combat work?
Like this?

Jingo the Orc has 2 RT, and studded leather(+3, again for arguments sake)
I have to beat a 5.

I have a 3 Coordination(+3 modifier to rolls) and weapon focus( so a pool of three dice)
[dice]d6+3[/dice]
[dice]d6+3[/dice]
[dice]d6+3[/dice]

Is everything just reduced down like that, or am I missing something?

Numinous

I guess I wouldn't have a problemw with that.  I vote d20, but at least I won't be so terribly disappointed if my side loses now.

So it looks like 2 and 2 for 20 and six?

And CYMRO, In principle, you've got it right... In practice, did you just roll all sixes?

Also, scores would be bigger. Five would probably be average. Seven would be pretty good. Ten would be 1337. Fifteen would be Chuck-Freaking-Norris.

So,

NATURAL 20 votes d20.(Big surprise)
BEEJAZZ votes d6.
WITCHUNT seems split, either d6 or d10.
CYMRO will waffle and go d6 out of respect for the fact not everyone is as geeky as me...

YES! :D  :drunk:

CYMRO

While we wait for more votes to roll(haha) in from the hinterlands,

When I did my sample caster in the othr thread, I did a 6 point buy, based of all scores start at zero.
Too much?  Too little?

beejazz

Well, scores starting at zero fucks wound points up the ass, IMHO...
especially if we're doing the toughness=wp thing.

I have to admit, I didn't expect support on the d6 bit.
It's makin' me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Starting at zero, with 6 points to spread among 5 scores, then the ability to buy more with the starting xp package.

Though imagine the character with no points in Toughness, and high Luck, like 4 to start.
0 WP, 40 VP.  Interesting RP challenge.

CYMRO

I PMed Silver, Snake, and Golem(nice and fast response!) about the vote.

So far:

NATURAL 20 votes d20.
BEEJAZZ votes d6.
WITCHUNT seems split, either d6 or d10.
CYMRO votes d6.
GOLEM votes d6.
