I beg all of you, can you wait one more day?  I totally forgot  about this, and tomorrow is my last day of school.  So, would everyone be willing to grant me until wednesday afternoon or night to enter?  Then I'll be able to write up a full and proper entry.

If not, I understand...

The idea is to elicit more entries, not be strict about deadlines.  The contest will now be closed at some point on Thursday, the 15th.  Good fortune!

Four Pooled Crowns
Within and between some of the largest and widest plateau markers in the midlands are shallow crevices with at least one third of all the water in the dry region. Quite a few dirt roads were recently made to travel to this wondrous place. Small camps have popped up around the outside of the crowns to take advantage at the resources found within the deeper part of these naturally made damp caverns. As the name suggests, there are four main circle groups of spires around the four lakes and small streams between. The streams are too small to have boats run along it and the paths are very rocky so the travellers here must journey by foot. However, most people make the journey anyway, as it is the most serene place in the world.

Small tributaries and dry rivers all contribute to these â,¬Ëdesertâ,¬,,¢ lakes. Tall spires of rock circle around the small canyons giving them their names. Each spire has large caves that are big enough to house a small family in each one. The soil near the lakes is suitable enough to grow small potatoes used for cheap liquor which is harvested and sold to the travellers who pass through. All of the spires are covered in a hard shale which is transported out to larger towns in Ahmal. The deeper caves also house raw clays and copper ores. Small groups of delvers control each of the veins of ore on a given side and distribute the earnings equally throughout the camps nearby.

Groups of locals will sometimes come here to pray to their gods and swim beneath the silky waves. The small minerals in the bottom of the lakes sparkle a light blue when the sun beats down on the water creating the effect of small spirits dancing on top. Goblinoid Hallankers (undead trickster spirits) are known to be around these parts and often play goofy tricks on the hardy trailblazers. Many of the more dangerous monsters that inhabit the Plateaus of the Midland find the Four Pooled Crowns has too constrictive terrain and donâ,¬,,¢t frequent the area very often making it one of the safest places in the region; and because of the water, one of the most important.
[ic=Description]The wind shifts, and the rain is diving at you now.  It seems to be taking deliberate action in an effort to chill you.  Small hailstones bounce off the ground and into the tops of your boots. You left Grimport a week ago, and you still see nothing but grass for miles in every direction.  This horrid rain has been coming down for 3 days now, and every step you take has your foot sinking into cold mud.  With a quick glance to the behind you to the south, you note the sliver of light that indicates the coming day.  Now, with a deep sigh, you go back to marching in a a determined, forward stance.  Now though, with your eyes set downward, the light seems to be coming from the north...  Alarmed, you snap your gaze onto the northern horizon and your jaw drops.  Beaming forth across the land is a radiant line, a glowing golden beacon.  now you remember the words of the inkeep at the tavern as you were leaving, "just keep marching north and you'll find the dwarven city.  Y'see, it's impossible not too.  Them crazy architects had themselves a wall built clear across the damned continent, at the narrowest point.  now I hear that if you approach this wall at dawn, you'll see the most incredible sight.  When the sun reflects off this behemoth fortification, You'll really see what they call dawnfire.  just past the wall will be the city you're lookin' for."  Now, you were staring at it, the most impressive work of any mortal.  The entire land in front of you is consumed in a stunning radiance.  Now, startled and looking around, you notice the rain has stopped, leaving only floating bits of mist to sparkle in the light projected by the Brass Dawn[/ic]

On the continent of Kelainos, massive plains of native grasses seem to shimmer with the winds for an in an eternal motion.  As beautiful as they are though, these plains are rife with monsters and are constantly raided by driders from the southern forests.  Their massive arachnid creations tower over everything on the land, inflicting great pain and death upon any whose path they cross.  So, in response to these dangers, the dwarven population of the northern mountains constructed a massive defense.  A Mechanical wall of brass stretching across the entire continent at it's narrowest point.

The Wall itself is made from brass through its whole length.  Massive gates at several points operate by utilizing the massive mechanical nature of the wall and lifting, sliging or rotating to allow visitors to pass into the mountainous realm.  The bttlements atop this fearsome defense are manned by patrols of dwarven guards.  although these guards are are heavily armed, the true threat comes from withing the platfrom they walk upon.  The Brass Dawn contains hundreds of artillery weapons throughout it's entire distance and is quite capable of defending against any invasion from an army of any size from the south.  Certain portions of the wall are also constructed from modified golems and shield gurdians, who were built under the soloe command to repel anyything which tries to pass without permission from the guards.  Thus, the wall itself is both an army in waiting and the best defense for the kingdom it belongs too.  Luckily for the dwarven realms however, the Dawn has acted to deter all invasions purey through it's imposing nature and reputation.  Corruption and assault from within are another matter altogether though...
The post is a little scattered, but all the information is there.  I hope everyone likes it. Here is a link to the original piece of fiction in which the wall was mentioned.  Although times have changed, the piece gives a good idea of why the wall was built in the first place.

Unless you have something to share, yes, this contest is now closed.  Thanks for the entries!  I suppose I'll put up a voting thread as soon as I get the time - if you were to post a wonder between now and when I post the voting thread, then I'll accept that too.

Dead thread. Maybe we could get something going again? This was a good idea.

Oh, how we danced and we swallowed the night
For it was all ripe for dreaming
Oh, how we danced away all of the lights

When can we expect to see anything like this? Weeks? Months? Days?

For finite types, like human beings, getting the mind around the concept of infinity is tough going.  Apparently, the same is true for cows.

Awesome. This thread has already inspired me to give the interesting sites of my setting more detail.

Can't wait to see what you do with this, Ish.

We should have a few things up very soon.  Most of our ideas/plans are pretty easty to implement.

Quite.  Terribly sorry, but sometimes I just get called away from certain hobbies for prolonged periods of time.  Additionally, it seemed silly on the final examination to actually complete the contest; how would one judge so many fascinating entries?  There's not exactly some standard to judge by.  It seems better off as an idea thread rather than a competition, and in that respect you can certainly revive the idea.  The competition bit was really just to kick people in the behind and get them to post. :)
