This is the discussion thread for Tammurand.  Post comments, suggestion, etc. here.

I can't believe that this is finally being posted! How long ago was it that you told me about this concept (six months maybe)?

Tammurand has a distinctly Salacious_Angel feel to it, which is almost always a good thing. Can we expect to see more about this anytime soon, or is this just an experiment to fuel the imagination (and tease us unmercifully)?

When you first described this to me, I thought it sounded a little more organic and biotech-ish, than it does now. I actually prefer the sooty, industrialized version though. I have oodles of questions, but before I delve too deeply, and let my imagination run wild, I'd love some little teasers. I don't want to even attempt to extrapolate what you have in store.

Yeah, I think I have a bit of a jones for gritty, industrial themes.  But my intention with Tammurand is to create a city which lies on the tenuous boundary between paradise and purgatory.  As the city traverses the cosmos it encounters realms both heavenly and sinister, and it is uncertain whether the maddened ingenuity that propels it through the Aether will be its salvation or damnation.

Does that mean Tammurand has become a seperate entity from Dystopia now, or are all these realms through which it travels part of Myr's cosmology?

Damn... The concept alone is totally prodding buttock, and the street urchin quote is a classic. I want more! MORE!

Tammurand is somewhat of a... "spiritual sequel" to Dystopia.  The giant bug in which the city is situated came from the red desert of Tyr, which is a location appearing not only in Dystopia but also in pretty much every other setting I've ever created.  As doves are John Woo's trademark, so too are ravens and that red wasteland my trademarks.

My current thoughts on the relationship between Tammurand and Myr are thus:

The Tyr of Tammurand's origin is a scarlet desert that succeeded the ruinous land in which ancient Dautat was situated (read up on Dystopia if this all seems confusing).  As psionic disciplines advanced and the perceived realities of individual consciousnesses continued to diverge, Tyr began to expand as a symbolic testament to the alienation brought about by each mind inhabiting a fundamentally unique universe, until it transcended the physical bounds of Myr and became a near infinite red expanse.

However, while this is technically "canon", it is far from the singular definitive "future" of Dystopia.  In similar fashion, the sinister Automatus of Chiaroscuro spreads from Ehrune and transforms the planet into a malformed, anarchic "machine"; the Sidhe, through an astonishing divinatory act, disrupt the world's temporal flow, causing the similtaneous convergance and dissolution of various points in the history of the planet, plunging it into inconceivable disorder; the Infernals of the Conflagrate breach the wards that separate the worlds, and envelope Myr in flame...

Then, of course, there are the alien IoValde and their dark machinations, striving to bring about the bleak anti-city Penumbra.

Those are just a few examples of an effectively infinite number of events that defined Myr's future in different fashions, all of which exist simultaneously in the same timeline (that is, while arguably parallel realities, they are not parallel universes).  Tamurrand navigates a universe that encompasses these strange futures and transcends them...

Of course, you needn't ever make any reference to Dystopia if you'd rather the settings were distinctly separate.  Tammurand's history doesn't mention anything before the city's founding - heck, even that is largely ambiguous.  But if you do want to have the connection, the city was founded many many many millennia after the expansion of Tyr.

NOTE:

Recurring entities from Dystopia are the Hellkind, the Divine Race (though not the Angels), the IoValde and their thought constructs, and the Fell (albeit under a different name).  Also, other elements of Dystopia appear in new incarnations...

Good to hear.  I assure you, there shall be more buttock-prodding of the highest order.

This is some good stuff.
I'm really curious about the power groups and all their machiavellian scheming.

Just a conspiracy of cartographers, then?

Not to toot my own horn or anything, folks, but I attest that my second Tamurrand post is pure plasmic awesome.  Enjoy.

beejazz

Definitely so. Out of curiosity, have you ever tried a game in this setting? I kind of wonder how that would play out.

I haven't, as I am yet to find a ruleset that can cater to the setting's needs.  Things are very mutable in Tammurand, and it would require some extremely flexible mechanics.

I mean really freakin' flexible.
