Thus far, Barnaby has fought only in the monster matches, and I believe Belarin has kept his own battles to Mage Duels. This will be a first for both of them." As the voice speaks the names of the two contestants, they walk out onto the field, the crowd cheers wildly for each of them in turn, expecting a good fight.[/ic]

Belarin enters the field from the opposite direction, his clothes moltey, with an almost too-large sword swinging from his belt, and followed by two "riding" dogs, obviously trained to and put on "guard". His eyes go wide, seeing his opponent. With exquisite care, he positions himself cautiously at the farthest point of the field from Barnaby[/ic]

(before entering the ring, cast Mage Armor and read a Cat's Grace scroll -- thus the +6 dex bonus and 20 AC).

Drank Potion of Shield of Faith +2 (30 minutes) and Potion of Barkskin +2 (3 minutes).

Belarin is at B14. He'll cast Shield (+4 Shield bonus, 3 minutes) this turn.

Perhaps I could convert him to Garl's path after this battle. Ah, yes, that's the key, after the battle." While this goes through his head, Barnaby drinks another potion. "All right!" he shouts to Belarin, "The time has come for the battle to begin!" With that, he utters a quick prayer to Garl, raises his blade, and charges at Belarin."[/ic]

[ooc]Darkxarth -- you're bundling Barnaby's last pre-combat round and his first real one? Ok, though I do get a pre-combat round in there (*sigh* Hadn't occured to me to pack Fox's Cunning, which is looking like a good idea right now). The dogs were at Belarin's side during the pre-combat phase, but will move into a guard position during his first move.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but by running, you've given up your dex bonus, yes (asks the rogue)?

(Belarin reads a scroll of Bear's Endurance as his last pre-combat action)

[ooc]I thought that the Perform: Comedy was your first action. Sorry. And yes, I just looked it up and I do lose my Dex bonus. It's only +1 anyway, so that brings his AC back down to 21. I guess that makes it your turn, and you need to roll initiative for your dogs, and if they get higher than 20, we may have to rework Round 1. (Not counting pre-combat).[/ooc]

[ooc] Sorry; was trying to make it clear that I was rolling it as a marker on Belarin's entire "performance" -- since it doesn't actually effect the match, and he doesn't actually take actions "doing comedy" but just does what he'd normally be doing in a (theoretically) funny way, I figured it didn't take an action. (especially since there's an esablishing shot where the combatants more or less get to pose for the crowd).

If the dogs get a higher initiative than Belarin does, they'll drop their initiative rank to his -- they're guard-trained dogs on "defend" duty, after all, not attack dogs. (and Belarin has a 45% chance of flubbing a command for them to do something -other- than defend anyways)

Belarin straightens up as Barnaby comes close. "They call me the Fire Juggler, but I think you need to cool down!" From his hand leaps a ball of ice, which initially heads toward Barnaby's chest, and then suddenly swerves to attempt to strike somewhere a bit more sensitive below.

Not watching to see if his missle hits its mark, Belarin flees toward an angle, his acrobatic training obvious in his movement. Amris and Amrod, true to their training, follow, keeping themselves between Belarin and the obvious threat.
