Belarin enters cautiously, sticking his head out of the gate quickly and bringing it back, then finally stepping out, followed by his guard dogs, Amris and Amrod.  Seeing his opponents as if for the first time, he steps backward again, tripping in pratfall over Amris, but landing upright.  He then takes his place, five feet in front of the gate he entered by, with the dogs flanking him.

Belarin starts at the oncoming Samurai, and turns and walks away, his dogs following and placing themselves between him and the obvious threat.
He then obviously thinks better of this, as he turns and chants briefly, guesturing.  As he does so, a spider web appears, starting over Ulu's shoulder, but quickly engulfing his him and the area around him.

[ooc]Walk to L4.  Cast Web at (M,L,10,11) -- Reflex save, DC: 18, to avoid being fixed in place (automagic entanglement and Cover even on a failed save).  Duration: 40 minutes.
Dogs follow, ending up at M4 and L5, avoiding the web.

Ulu is stuck tight by the webs that descended  around him however he ignites his swords, causing the webbing to catch fire around him. Ignoring the pain as the webbing burns off of him.

I don't think there's a "catch fire" chance.

For that matter, there's specific interaction between "magic flaming swords" and the Web spell; I'm not sure how that works in terms of timing (but suspect that taking damage on the first round is right, given that you're cutting through webs that are -holding you in place-.  Somewhat arguable, though)

Also, a rules question of my own:

I'm pretty sure that given that "total cover" == "no line of effect", that while I don't have line of effect to you right now, that I do have LOE to (10,11,L,M), that that vertex -does- have LOE to you (not being blocked by 20 feet of webs).  Does that sound right?

Also, as far as I can tell, a web provides cover but -not- concealment -- so I can tell what's going on inside the web, and unless I manage to "hide", you can tell what's going on outside, right?

As far as I know, You can see into the webs and I can see out of them, but I'm not certain you don't have line of effect. I think I just get +4 to AC. As far as I know, By lighting a fire inside the webs, I can light the webs on fire, without an attack roll, as they're kind of everywhere. Actually, I've a chance to catch fire if I'm inside the webs while they're burning. I didn't catch fire (I think it's DC15). I was almost hoping to have my character catch fire. Then  he could light different squares on fire.
