Also, I'm still lobbying for two Recent Posts lists; one for Homebrew, one for the rest. We have to remember what we stand for (settings/campaigns) :D

So things like the Mass Effect PBP being in the list bugs you?

Well, if play-by-post is something you don't do or follow, having the top slots always taken up in recent posts is a little annoying, though I hadn't given it much thought until you said that.

But yes, if the main page had two recent sections, one for Homebrews and Campaign Elements, and one for more social stuff it might be nice. Of course, we can always just scroll down the page if all else fails ;)

Nono, it has nothing to do with me disliking all the other discussions and initiatives on the site!
I genuinely like most of them.
Instead I hope that the idea would A) make it more likely for setting-relevant material to be noticed and reviewed on a regular basis B) help advertise the settings to visitors and members alike C) incentivize all of us to work on our projects since they remain "in play" for longer.
I almost exclusively use the recent posts section for site navigation. The only times I access the forum directly are if I need to update my own material or review for example CE character creation which I am a part of. I'm not saying everybody needs this feature, but I think it would make our site better in many ways! :)

Well the good news is guys I found a cool thing called pagify that lets me use javascript to load html from different pages inside a div. Basically this means that we can have a very nice front page where the different blocks (news, recent posts, etc) can have multiple tabs. I can also do this with DHTML but it doesn't look as nice. So in other words we can play around with having different tabs inside the recent posts box.

I support Nomadic's comment about moving to displaying 25 and Crow's suggestion: "Also, I'm still lobbying for two Recent Posts lists; one for Homebrew, one for the rest. We have to remember what we stand for (settings/campaigns", as well as my earlier point about thread starter.

Regarding Crow's suggestion- since we are the campaign builder's site and we want to showcase homebrew settings it just seems like it makes sense to put them on the front page :), especially since the site no longer does the "setting of the month/week" feature that it did back in the days of Xeviat and Ishmayl.

It might be possible for me to set up something so that you could tag your official setting thread. Tagged threads would get added to a list with the most recent ones appearing in a recently updated settings section. How would you guys feel about that? Oh and as an aside I changed the recent topics list to 25, is that working better for you guys?

Superfluous Crow

That could definitely work, Nom.

The 25 recent thread thing is working! Thank you.

As far as tagging our favorite setting thread that we created- that could work. Just having the most recently-posted-to 12 settings could also work. The drawbacks of the tagging is that a new member may have no idea how to "top" their thread. The benefit could be that 1-question/answer threads for a setting don't clutter the recent posts and 2-scantily sketched out new members settings aren't the first thing that lurkers see when they're perusing the newest settings and (this is a neutral fact) 3-if someone is like Llum in that they go on posting rampages to their old settings, they don't clutter the box (although I always love it when Llum does a huge update :D)

Ninja D!

I think we should bring back the setting showcase and the setting interviews, then combine them. Then to make it more doable, make it something like quarterly.

sparkletwist

Or no-stats theatre. Personally, I think the best way to really get a feel for an RPG setting is to experience it. :D

LD

I'm not against that sparkle, but remember-

LC offered to do his and there was interest, then he didn't have the time to do it sadly and I've offered up Gloria for that 2 or 3 times over the past two years, but only Steerpike expressed interest. Apparently people just don't want to do no stats theatre. I think people petitioned Polycarp to do his Clockwork Jungle, but he didn't have the time.

Your setting was the only one that was completed successfully, if I recall correctly.

No there have been at least 3 successful no stats theaters. Polycarp did Clockwork Jungle, Sparkletwist did Asura, and Steerpike did Tempter. As for the Gloria one I never heard of it being offered, if I had I would have gladly shown my interest. I think the issue with the No Stats Theaters was more an issue of lack of advertisement. That can be fixed.

What Nomadic said. I would've jumped in the Gloria one as well; any lack of response on my part was solely due to lack of time, lack of awareness, or both.

I'd be happy to make a news post (if Nomadic doesn't beat me to it) promoting any future NSTs.

Ah, I forgot about Tempter! Thank you for correcting me. I didn't realize that was a no-stat theatre game.

And I didn't realize that Polycarp managed to get Clockwork Jungle going- I recall signing up for it but I must have not been able to make it :o (As sadly I have missed far too many CE games recently :(). One would think that I would have the usual schedule around here (with a theoretically 9-5 job [practically ranging from 8-7 on some days] and all), but CBGers tend to be available in the early afternoons EST for the most part :) whether that is due to European locale or night work schedules.

Oh, thank you. I wrote up characters and storylines and everything.

I can correct my statement about only Steerpike expressing interest in Gloria- I think Vreeg and LC mentioned it was nice, but they didn't have time. So, to be precise, only Steerpike expressed ability and interest.

I posted about it in Nov. 2010, Bumped in Feb. 2011, then again in May 2011. http://www.thecbg.org/index.php/topic,123302.0.html  I also offered to run an assortment of my other settings, presuming that the lack of interest may have been a lack of interest in the particular setting.

LordVreeg

I did so.  Indeed, Gloria is a fav due to the delightful uniqueness.
I just am combining family, a huge job, and 3 games I run already.   as well as being best man in a wedding right now.
But Gloria is the shiznitz.
