Number of Players Sought:

Game Time:  TBA

Game Length:  Until people have or want to call it a night.

How to Join:  Post interest in this thread, along with a rough idea of what sort of dungeon delver you'd like to play; remember this is Gurps, so while it can approximate the feel of D&D or Pathfinder, it will not match it exactly.  This is most evident in its treatment of magic (much, much less shooty and far more utility; picture a spell list of useful cantrips).

Game World:  Generic and shallow points-of-light fantasy setting that explicitly exists to support dungeon crawling.

Game Storyline:  You are a band of adventurers.  There are monsters.  You want their loot.  You have weapons and too much free time for the monsters' well being.

Other Information:  Don't worry about actual character generation.  I'll do 90% of it based on a series fo questions I'll ask each of you (to iron out little details here and there).  This game will focus on the in-game mechanics.  If successful, we'll slowly transition over to the nasty business of making PCs from templates, and later from scratch (it requires a much different mindset and approach from d&d/pathfinder).

Character Generation
This is a dungeon crawl, which means lots of combat.  I figure that should serve our purposes well, since combat is such a large part of a game system.  That and killing things is fun.  So with that in mind, I'd suggest the following approach to character generation:

[note]Remember that Gurps tends toward realism in most aspects, so some weapons simply are better than others.  Frex, a nunchaku will never have damage output equivalent to a big honkin' greatsword, and crossbows take forever to reload (not cool in combat).  There is no attempt to balance this; there's a reason samurai used katana instead of nunchaku.  Also, one final warning - fighting with just fists is a bad idea; you can damage yourself just by punching/kicking something hard, and you'd better pray your opponent doesn't try to parry your hand with a weapon, like a razor-sharp sword.  Ouch.[/note]
Step 1)  Decide your PC's weapon of choice, and don't forget to include whether or not he uses a shield with it - that will make a difference.  It is unlikely that anyone will be able to afford armor worth mentioning in the beginning, but definitely keep in mind what amount of protection you'd like to eventually acquire.

Step 2)  Decide what secondary skills or talents your PC brings to the party.  Here is a sample list:  Amphibious Warfare, Area Defense, Assassination, Bodyguard, Booby Traps, Desert Warfare, Dungeoneering, Escape and Evasion, Field Medicine, Fixer, Forest Warfare, Impersonation, Infantry Training, Intelligence, Intelligence Analysis, Interrogation, Intrusion, Investigation, Jungle Warfare, Kidnapping, Languages, Occult Knowledge, Mountaineering, Parkour, Physical Training, Plains Warfare, Recon, Records Falsification, Resistance, Sabotage, Seafaring, Social Engineering, Spin Doctor, Surveillance, Survival, Theft, Wetland Warfare, Winter Warfare, etc.

Step 3)  Briefly (100 words or less, darnit!) describe your PC's personality and outlook on the world.

Step 4)  Enjoy a brief meetup in IRC to discuss any further aspects of your PC.

Step 5) Receive a PC sheet with a generic equipment list for now.

So far, we have a very flayer shaman-esque wizard.  Do we have any other takers?  Having experience isn't bad; I'll just rely on you to help teach the system with me.

Starting people with a dungeon crawl? This will be a bloodbath...

Are you using Dungeon Fantasy?

Humabout

I was going to use that flavor, yeah.  The PC I made for Nomadic is a mish-mash of a couple templates in there.  Overall power output is appropriate for DF.

And I intend to go easy at first until everyone gets their feet wet.  Combat is the nastiest part fo the system, I think, so it'll give everyone a chance to experience the various mechanics.  I've introduced people this way before and it worked out nicely.

Interesting. I'll have to think of what kind of character I'd want to do, then. You want me to make it or do you want to do it?

Humabout

You're free to make it.  I was just going to skip the agony of explaining CharGen for now.  After the group knows the mechanics, I think it'll be easier to tackle making a PC.

Not a problem for me. I have about $300 in GURPS PDFs and the character assistant. How many points are we going with, how many in disadvantages, and are their any restrictions? Feel free to PM me instead of posting here if you want to avoid intimidating anyone with details.

I'm up for it if more people join.  Right now we only have two, so I'm not sure.  I'd be more comfortable if we had two more.

I could play depending on when it is. My schedule is sadly busy due to school

Humabout

That'd be awesome!  I'm sure we can work up gaming schedule that works for everyone.  What sort of character would you like to play?

I will also try to make games when I can. It's looking pretty busy outside of WG and Haveneast the next few weeks though. If you're still running (I assume you will be) in mid-April or later I should be able to join up.
