I was always figured a big part of d20 modern classes was multiclassing - yes, a Charismatic Hero has major weaknesses, but that's why you should really go for a Charismatic/Strong or Charismatic/Fast or something.  Each class is built around one of the six attributes and most characters have two or three good stats, so it makes sense to me to muliclass to make the most of your attributes.  It's not a perfect system but for a one-shot especially it'd probably work just fine.

I kind of see what you're saying, but I just don't see what a Charismatic Hero is even good for other than being a diplomancer. Like, why not just be a Fast Hero?

Anyway, I thought the main idea behind d20 modern multiclassing was that you started in a basic class and then took various advanced classes or prestige classes (what's the difference, anyway?) to get whatever you wanted to do. The base classes seem like they're basically just stepping stones, so taking more base class levels sort of feels like it's just keeping you from the "good" classes, or something.

I will admit that the Charismatic Hero is poorly designed, and highlights some of the stranger aspects of d20 social skills, although Favor is sort of interesting and the Leadership tree is no more broken than the corresponding Bard skills.  The other five basic classes are somewhat less obnoxious, though, and I don't think Leetz is thinking of using prestige classes...

Well, I have opinions about some of the other classes, too (Tough Hero seems sort of like "Strong Hero only not as good") but I don't want to turn this thread into a d20 Modern debate/dissection.

What about using the three Generic PC classes - Warrior, Expert, and Spellcaster? This would mean slightly more magic in the campaign, but that would probably be for the best, as without it, Arga is basically Greek mythology 2.0, bringing in the four 'schools' (I use that word very lightly) that I developed a while ago with perhaps another added and some heavy tweaking - All-Seeing Ver, Entropic Phaen, Aethra of the Void, and Thuen the Making-Magic.

I actually based my homebrew system around the generic classes. I see nothing wrong with them, as long as you have a wide variety of flavorful feats that give distinction.

I think that might be a good way to go about it.  That way you can still throw in ways to spice up different kinds of warriors, but also have some other options with Experts and some setting-appropriate kinds of magic-users.

Ok, I have most of the crunch details figured out enough for at least a one-shot. So, head count so I can start planning and tweaking the adventure?

Me too!

Especially if we're not using those terrible d20 modern classes anymore.

O Senhor Leetz

One more and I think I can make it work. Any takers?

I might be interested.  Once the Mini-Con starts to rev up a bit more, I think you could expect more interest in general, though.

Humans only, and probably pre-gens just to make things go smoother in tailoring the adventure towards specific skill sets.
