Which game would you rather play?

Dark Fantasy Adventure
Sci-Fi Action Horror

Humabout

My work schedule is finally settling into a routine, so I think I will have time to run a game.  I have a couple of ideas kicking around in my head, and while I'd love to run all of them, I need to narrow this down to just one.

1)  Dark Fantasy Adventure:  PCs are living in a dark, quasi-post-apocalyptic world.  Survival itself can be an adventure, but I see an overall theme of exploration - both in terms of geography and of history - developing.  The game would be relatively sandboxy, with some plot hooks dropped around for convenience, and players are encouraged to explore the world.  There will be plenty of opportunities to go dungeon delving owing to a plethora of ancient ruins, extensive cave systems, and plenty of mad cultists.  PCs should have a reason to adventure together before the game beings.  This game is intended for extended play.

2)  Sci-Fi Action Horror:  PCs are private military contractors (PMC) working for Solaris System Security (SSS) who have been hired by the government to recover data and personnel from a secret research facility with which they have lost contact.  Players will choose one of five team members (one may be omitted for lack of players):  Team Leader, Weapons Expert (Bravo), Demolitions Expert (Charlie), Medic (Delta), or Communications Expert (Echo).  Team roles may not be duplicated.  This game is initially planned as a one-shot adventure, but if everything turns out okay and the players want to continue, it'll be easy enough to extend.

The system I'll be using is GURPS.  For players, it is pretty simple, so don't worry if you're not familiar with it.  Games will be on Sundays at a time to be determined.

These both sound fun.  The first is very similar in premise to an adventure I've been wanting to run.  (I've discussed it on IRC, but with Balor's Head going, I haven't had time to run TWO games simultaneously, so this one's been on the back burner)

Do you have a preference between the two or interested at all in joining the game at all?  I don't think I could pull off two games simultaneously, either, so I figure I'll do whatever people vote for.  I've wanted to do the second for a long time, but all the work on mapping and starfall has me really jonesing for some fantasy adventure, too.  And I've always wanted to do a really broad and open game.  I'm curious to see what people vote for.

I guess I'd be more interested in PLAYING the latter, since I wouldn't necessarily want to play in a game that was so similar to what I was going to GM soon after.  Idea stealing aside, I might burn out on fantasy survival in the first.

I'm with SH, I think the second one seems more interesting from a player perspective. The first one is cool but it seems similar to Steerpike's Cadaverous Earth. Not necessarily a bad thing (in fact if you wanted to do that I'd encourage you to just use CE as it's a fascinating setting), but if you're trying to do your own thing here I'd probably avoid it.

If I do the first, it'll use starfall as a setting. It's pseudo-post apocalyptic in the sense that everyone in it feels as though the world is ending.  It isn't necessarily but that's the atmosphere.  I have wanted to run the second for a while though. I also need to get something going in starfall to help flesh it out and explore it. Hence being on the fence.

Yes I could have.  So far everyone seems pretty unanimously for scifi action horror, too.

I wanna be Bravo. Ratatatatat. Tat tat.

Been some time since I got my GURPS on.

Okay, considering i just voted for the first one so I could see the results, it really looks like most people want some sci fi horror-action gaming.  I'll start prepping the adventure properly and toss up a recruitment thread in the meantime.  We will begin gaming once we have people and I'm finished fleshing out the adventure a little more (I need to be prepared if this is a horror game).
