So I've been going through a music binge lately. I found a group I'm falling in love with called Steam Powered Giraffe. Do you like Daft Punk? Do you like Jonathan Coulton? Then you'll like this group.

I know the people on this board must have some pretty awesome music in their libraries, so I implore you, do you have any interesting/weird but good music to share with me?

Are you looking for the same genre you described?

And what do you mean by ''weird''? I mean, what's weird is subject to personal opinion.

I would have you try Weather Report. That's jazz-fusion. Especially the tunes Gibraltar, Black Market and Havona, but there are a lot of other good tunes from them.
In the same vein, but a little bit more modern and drum-oriented I'd go for Dave Weckl. There's the legendary Billy Cobham as well, but while his drumming is insane, I find only a few select tunes are really good, such as Stratus and Red Baron.

That's in the fusion vein. If you like more electro-chillout tunes, I have tons of that stuff. I would actually need some time to gather them up so maybe it's simply better if I include a link to a YouTube Playlist, which I can't do at the moment since I'm at work.

I've got lots of groovy tunes, too.

Let me clarify that I am not a Hipster. Or if I am a hipster, than I am a sincere one. I don't hate things because their mainstream. Theirs tons of great mainstream music..... from decades ago.

I just don't like anything that's popular right now, and I think this is a horrible decade for music. At least mainstream, but i have found great music digging deep into the internet music culture. I'm a pretty big fan of retrowave, neo-swing music, Southern Gothic music, and lot's of other stuff. I mainly find new music by stumbling onto a group I like and finding other groups like that group, so if you guys have bands that are interesting I want to hear more. Weird is hard for me to define. maybe just forget that.

Disagree. More options than ever before. Even among new things. Just need to seek.

Merry Christmas.

Why not... listen to great mainstream music of today as imagined from decades ago:

Why be Daft Punk? Each Song only has a few good lines.

For Swing, go to France (Avoid the Robots)

If nothing else, watch this, (from Zootopia 2):

And this, (on facing your fears):

Personally though, I have yet to find a single SteamPowered Giraffe song I like.

Thanks for the recommends. I always like finding new Electro-swing grooves so I appreciate the recommends. It's fascinating how much I think modern songs work when put through the PMJ. Also I understand that SPG isn't for everyone. But I think they harmonize well, and I like the way present on stage. Also the line "How many of you like fighting skeleton pirates on the back of killer whales?" well never be topped.

I listen to a lot of what I call "thinking music." A favourite for getting things done is the Hotline Miami Soundtrack, particularly the tracks by M.O.O.N.

That particular track is epic. That game was fun, too.

LoA, you might try the radio stations on Soma FM. There's a lot of variety, but I am particularly fond of Mission Control.

How about just mashing up a bunch of stuff that's popular now, using a 25 year old song as a basis? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjB8M06Au-g

The channel called, fittingly, "NewRetroWave" is quite good about that, and I like it quite a bit. A couple of my favorites:

You might also like cTrix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9fLT_9E6Ik

Or just go back to stuff from the original time period: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJgD9ihRSKw

As is somewhat known around here, I'm a fan of Bollywood (particularly older stuff) so I'd be remiss if I didn't include a link to some of the music-- it's "weird" from a non-South-Asian perspective, probably.

Holy shit that remix. It felt like time slowed down while I was watching that.

I'm going to be listening to retro music all night now.

I am impressed at how good some of those songs were from that particular game.
The first one seems like a surf rock song done post-Phish era... ... It went on forever.
Thank you for the recommendation of M.O.O.N.
