umm...   the actual problem is that the database is using a Swedish encoding... so i dont think it likes your characters.

i would recommend changing your 'login name'  in your profile to something with standard characters. (like  ' Turin ' )

it wont affect the way we see your name.  just your login.

I didn't even know we could change our login names... i just thought the appearance name was all we could change.

I will deffinately use this for Sulos, once I figure out how to do it. I'll have to play around with it for a while, and will probabaly have to ask many annoying questions, but I think without this feature, I'd never be able to realistically post Sulos in any way that does it justice. Monday I'm going to play around with it, and see if I can figure it out.

Forgive me if it takes me a little while to get it right. I have zero experience using HTML. I'm an eager cadet though.

It's cool; ask all the questions you want.  Just keep in mind, that for the most part, you don't even have to know html for this little thing to work; it pretty much does all the work for you.

I wonder what the number of times is someone must quote Paris Hilton before I lose any and all respect for their opinions. I don't think it's a high number (high being defined here as, say, above two). Oh well.

[on topic] I'm pretty sure I can't change my login. If so, how do I go about doing it?

So I tried to put some of Orden's Mysteries in the hosting part. It's looking very good, so thumbs up for that. Here's a few questions:

How are you supposed to navigate to other people's CSes? I was able to get to other people's directories by removing the 12 in the address bar of my browser, but there doesn't seem to be any other way to navigate the Hosting area. It also seems to be impossible for non-members to get to the Hosting area (the link requires you to log in).

I suppose this works best if you use multiple files (rather than putting everything in OrdensMysteries.html). Any guidance on how to do this?

To cheer things up a little, I tried to use the background colouring option, but it only coloured the selected area. Even if I selected all text, it only coloured the area around the text, rather than the whole page. Any way to get the actual background coloured?

Thanks for providing this service here. I think this could come to look very good.

we haven't made a way to view the pages yet.. im still kind of brainstorming on that.

it would be easy just to say 'submit your links to the links section'  but i dont think thats good enough...  so im going to try to work out an auto-mated system that can detect when a person has started a CS, and link to it automatically.

of course, the problem with that is that everyone's page would be linked to, whether they thought it was 'ready' or not.

sooo, let me know how you would rather do it.

as for the background color,

there is a button on the editor (between 'tables' and 'links') that says 'toggle HTML source'

at the very top, you can add

but thats really a one-time fix , so you better like the color choice.  (you can use hexidecimal also)
 or something..

ill give a better answer later, i need to fix some things.

Hey thanks again.

As for the linking: people have access to all the files that are present anyway (just type www.thecbg.org/settings) so I think it should just be changed so that a) there is a link on top of the welcome screen that leads to www.thecbg.org/settings, b) those pages look a little better, and c) if possible, that the owner of a directory can decide which files are "clickable" (i.e. can be opened directly by clicking them in the directory, probably just the index file). That's just my two cents.

MAKE an index file, and people will only be able to see the index file. (then make the index link to pages you want public). the only reason you can browse the directory is because there's no index.htm/index.html.

we can also keep people from browsing the settings directory by putting in an index, but i dont think thats a problem, really.

So if any one of the files in my directory is called index.html then anyone who types www.thecbg.org/settings/12 will be automatically directed to that file and will not be able to view any other files, is that correct?

Edit: the "rename file" function doesn't seem to work. It says:
