I personally would like to see it as SRD-based as possible, but if homebrew races are kept kind of provincial, I'd be fine with it.

I also don't think there should be a limit on homebrew races; we take what's in the SRD and run with it.  Kind of like scissors, but exchange the whole stabbitied-bloodiness at the end for awesomeness.

Or something.

Poseptune

I had a dog named scissors once. It was very boring sitting in the yard staring at each other. I never understood why they said I couldn't run and play with scissors....

If everyone is planning on sticking to SRD races then the homebrewed races don't need a limit. However if there is no limit there is a possiblity (slim as it is) that we can get 40+ homebrewed races. So I suppose that there will be no limit, with the emphasis on using an SRD race (SRD includes monsterous, so there are a few more options than just using the PHB).

If you do make a homebrewed race, post it here as well. This way members can check its balance and if they like it they can use the race in a neighboring region.

"Then shall the last battle be gathered on the fields of Valinor. In that day Tulkas shall strive with Melko, and on his right shall stand Fionwe and on his left Turin Turambar, son of Hurin, Conqueror of Fate; and it shall be the black sword of Turin that deals unto Melko his death and final end; and so shall the Children of Hurin and all men be avenged." - J.R.R. Not to bring backa thread from the dead, but this one seems to have ended in  a weird place.

I do not oppose a human only world, but I think it will be more boring than it needs to be.

It's not human only, it's SRD only, which means almost everything from the PHB and MM can be used.

I think that was the consensus anyway...

I got the impression that it was SRD races, plus whatever homebrew races you could come up with.

Clarification: Vreeg, I think your confusion stems from this: the Empire itself is dominated by humans; the rest of the world world, and even within the Empire, however, is by no means "human-only."

LordVreeg

I think you are right, as long as that was the consensus.

Yes the consensus was:

The Empire is dominated by humans and began human only, but the rest of the world is made up of various races. So when the Empire started conquering lands, it began to become a mixed population.

The rest of the world is going to be populated (by the members selecting regions) with races from the OGL (PHB and MM) peppered with homebrewed races to give it that extra flavor. No races are banned as of yet.
In the middle of the earth in the land of the Shire
lives a brave little hobbit whom we all admire.
With his long wooden pipe,
fuzzy, woolly toes,
he lives in a hobbit-hole and everybody knows him

Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
He's only three feet tall
Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
The bravest little hobbit of them all

Now hobbits are a peace-lovin' folks you know
They don't like to hurry and they take things slow
They don't like to travel away from home
They just want to eat and be left alone
But one day Bilbo was asked to go
on a big adventure to the caves below,
to help some dwarves get back their gold
that was stolen by a dragon in the days of old.

Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
He's only three feet tall
Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
The bravest little hobbit of them all

Well he fought with the goblins!
He battled a troll!!
He riddled with Gollum!!!
A magic ring he stole!!!!
He was chased by wolves!!!!!
Lost in the forest!!!!!!
Escaped in a barrel from the elf-king's halls!!!!!!!

Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
The bravest little hobbit of them all

Now he's back in his hole in the land of the Shire,
that brave little hobbit whom we all admire,
just a-sittin' on a treasure of silver and gold
a-puffin' on his pipe in his hobbit-hole.

If you want your region to have a civilization of kobolds, go for it. They are part of the OGL/SRD, thus within the realm of acceptable races.

If we use SRD races, that means the gith races and the illithid are out, doesn't it? Because they aren't in the SRD.

Poseptune

yeah, because they are no OGL.

Quote from: Atlantisanyone think kobolds should be one of the majorities of the races? i believe that would be very interesting

I once made kobolds a prominent race in my campaign setting, the Faenaed Chronicles. It's currently not being used so if you want you can check it out/steal some ideas. Ill post the link if I can find it...

EDIT: Anyway, heres my take on kobolds, they can be used just as flexibly as any other race in my opinion. I got a lot of good feedback as well.
Kobolds
The Kobolds of Atlaia are a secretive race that live deep within the jungles of Faenaed. They are natural spellcasters and have used their powers to overcome their inherent physical weaknesses. Kobold society revolves around their deity Sho'slukan. Sho'slukan appears as a great kobold with six arms. Their deity has apparently told them that they are the master race, and can dominate even over the elves with their Spellcasting might. The kobolds are ruled by an emperor that is proclaimed as a demigod second only to Sho'slukan. He is attended to by a myriad of clerics who communicate with the deity and direct counsel to the emperor. The hierarchy continues down to warriors, then merchants, farmers and slaves.
The kobolds have a surprisingly advanced civilization and have apparently been around almost as long as the elves. Deep in their primordial jungles they have built vast cities of stone. Great stepped pyramids and enormous temples are the center of attention of these cities. There are even universities devoted to the teaching of the arcane and divine arts.
Their time within the jungle shave given the kobolds many abilities to help them survive. They have adapted to the darkness of the jungle floors, can travel with ease through the trees and can camouflage themselves to the forest around them.
Description: Kobolds are small creatures that stand just under three feet tall. They weigh around 40 pounds. They are a reptilian species whose skin is covered in scales that can be red, brown, green or any color in-between. Kobolds etch runes into their scales and paint them with a bright blue dye to commemorate special occasions, kills in battle or status. The pattern of horns on a kobold's crown can also be used to distinguish one from another.
