I'm restarting this thread, as the last one has lied in the depths of archives far too long to be resurrected. Also, so much of the old material has been changed. The old thread can be found  HERE.

Again, a warning, this post will be in a constant state of flux. The first post will be the background, the second will be factual stuff, and the third and fourth posts will be reserved for a FAQ Q&A posting, where I'll organize questions asked, so newcomers to the thread can skim that rather than reading through the whole thread.

Also, I promise that the legend in the first thread is not a copy past of anything I've written so far. Yes, there will be thematic elements the same, but it will be different.

Lastly, I must apologize for the lack of poetic, flowery language. While this covers what will be in the legends written within the Knight's Book, I'm still gathering all of my ideas.

Enjoy.

-------------------------

In an age lost to time, the race of Ancients ruled the world. They built grand towers of glass and iron, controlled the land, sea, and air, eradicated the world's monsters and dominated the beasts, and developed great and terrible magics. They grew powerful enough to forsake their gods. The land began to die as the spirits were forgotten. None of this stopped the Ancient's progress.

The last of the gods, the great dragoness Zion, brought her icy wrath upon the Ancients. No one knows how long it took, but she didn't stop her assault until the Ancients were wiped from the world. But the battle had taken its toll upon Zion, so she coiled around the desolate world, encircling it. The band of stars we see today encircling running from west to east across the night sky are her glistening scales.

In her sleep, Zion birthed seven great dragons; four sons and three daughters. Zions four sons were the elemental dragon gods: Firdel, the Fire Dragon; Naias-Sorn, the Water Dragon; Tyranon, the Earth Dragon; Wyndaguile, the Air Dragon. Zion's three daughters were the dragons goddesses of Life, Death, and Void: Goldenfeather, the Light Dragon; Vandek, the Dark Dragon; Ivenodia, the Void Dragon. Together, the seven Dragon Gods descended upon the world and brought life back.

Once again, the land was filled with beasts, the sea filled with fish, and the sky filled with birds. The spirits of the world were once again alive. But none of their creations worshiped them, so they set about to have their own children. Goldenfeather and Vandek sired their brothers' children: Goldenfeather's children were the beautiful Serpents, wise and benevolent feathered dragons; Vandek's children were the terrible wyrms, cunning and malicious scaled dragons.

The Four Elements quickly grew angry with their children; while they worshiped their mothers, they refused to worship their fathers. So they turned to their remaining sister, Ivenodia, asking for the secret of creation. She taught them to create life as their sisters could, and so they forged new children from the very elements themselves. Thus were born the Giants.

The Four Elements lavished their Giant children with great boons, granting them great power and magic. Soon, they conquered the land, building great cities of stone. As they expanded and their cities grew, they encountered our own fledgling race: humankind. Thus, when our racial memory awoke, we were in bondage to the Giants.

The Giants kept tight restrictions on mankind. They did not let us practice magic, so our shamans became secretive. They did not let us learn to use weapons, so the monks pioneered the first unarmed fighting techniques. It was these monks who rebelled first, striking out against their Giant masters. But the monks were far too few, and they barely escaped with their lives, fleeing into the mountains where they established the first monastery.

Three thousand years ago, the Holy Black Knight was born to a woman who personally served her the Giant God-King. The Black Knight was half-giant, so he was raised by his Giant father, and was even put in charge of the royal iron mines. It didn't take long for the Black Knight to grow enraged at the sight of his human brothers and sisters toiling at the ends of their master's whips; it stunk of injustice. Gathering his conviction, the Black Knight forged five grand swords, one for himself and the other four for his knights. The Black Knight chose and trained four of the miners, granting each of them one of the blades. To the Gold Knight, who was without fear, he granted a hefty greatsword so strong it could cleave iron. To the Blue Knight, whose prowess in combat was unmatchable, he granted a versatile shortsword which had the power to become two. To the Green Knight, whose sense of fairness and honesty was unwavering, he granted a swift rapier capable of always striking true. To the Red Knight, most loyal of all, he granted a noble longsword and it's impenetrable companion shield.

Together, the Five Legendary Knights waged war upon the Giants. They had many successes, but soon they had to face the God-King, the Black Knights' father. In the final battle, the Red Knight took a mortal blow for the Black Knight, saving his life. A house slave picked up the Red Knight's sword and shield, joining the battle. When the God-King was slain, the Black Knight felt that he had abused the Red Knight's loyalty, asking him to do what he was unable to. To punish himself, the Black Knight took his own life, paying the ultimate price for justice. Due to its immense size, the Black Knight's sword was used as a lance by the next Black Knight.

The Five Legendary Knights traveled the land, fighting off the remaining giants and freeing the brothers and sisters from bondage. Once all of mankind was freed, the Knights left to the edge of the world to grow and learn and spread the light of honor.

When they returned to our land, generations had passed. The Five Swords had been passed down through the generations, now wielded by new Knights. The Knights had even amassed followers, and came bearing the first Black Knight's teachings, the Code of Chivalry, to enlighten the land. But the land's new human tyrants would hear nothing of it. Once again, duty fell upon the Knights to rid the land of tyranny; the new Knights conquered the land and overthrew the corrupt kings and queens. Thus was born the Hunurst Empire, named for the first Black Knight.
