That's what I thought.

I'm especially enthusiastic because I love the Warhammer Fantasy RPG (also by Black Industries) and so have utmost faith in their dedication to (and competence in) bringing the Imperium to life.

So after consigning innumerable worlds to the lunatic flames of the Changing Lord, at last the Dark Gods have answered my prayers.

(And check out that artwork, particularly the techno-vitruvian man in the third photo on that page.  Gives me teh chills every time)

See that's the same reason why groups sometimes run evil campaigns.  In this you'd just run an "enemies of the Imperium" campaign.

But that would require inventing a whole new system of rules. In a game where your character advances by pursuing normal human careers and accumulating normal human technology, how exactly does one play an eldar or an ork? To say nothing of genestealers, who have neither careers nor technology, just hypnotic powers and slavish cultists.

Monster classes.  As far as careers, there are probably ways in which careers could be made pretty standard for all the races with certain variants exclusive to the different races.  Technology would be dealt with through different gadgets and equipment.  I would think that since the humans are rooting out the heretics and the other races, there would probably be other races in the game, and their technology.

@Sal: What's the release date on this?  Cause I would suggest that the game not be criticized before it comes out.

Seraph's probably right about the "monster classes" thing.  Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay supplements (such as the Old World Bestiary, Children of the Horned Rat and Tome of Corruption) contained "monster careers" as well as details on how to play other races.

I imagine they'll do the same for Dark Heresy, providing supplements for the various other races of the Galaxy some point down the line.  That's all well and good: with the healthy track record on their WFRP line, I don't doubt the core book will be rules-lite and oozing with flavour (400 pages is nothing to sneer at), and as long as I get details on running an Eldar campaign eventually, I'm satisfied.

So far, the revealed 40KRPG books are:

February - Dark Heresy (Core)
March - Purge the Unclean (Adventures)
May - The Inquisitor's Armoury (Sourcebook)
June - The Acolyte's Handbook (Player's Guide)
Septermber - Disciples of the Dark Gods (Chaos, y'all)

Not to mention that 40KRPG is supposedly three pseudo-settings, not one.  Dark Heresy entails playing Inquisitors, while the other two cover the Rogue Traders (on the fringes of the Impirium and way, way beyond) and the Deathwatch (OMG!  SPACE MARINES!  Head explodes).  The three are inclusive, using the same rules and (obviously) sharing the same mythos.

It seems pretty clear to me that the fellas at Black Insustries are going all out for this one.

EDIT: According to the designers, the main reason why elves have been given such little love in WFRP is because they are so much more powerful than humans as a culture.  The same principle probably carries over to 40K: a lot of stuff will likely premain the near-exclusive province of NPCs because to do otherwise would defy the tone of the setting.

Nevertheless, gimme my Eldar!  (and a little Tau while we're at it)

Ooo, so this isn't just a rumor, it's real! Awesome!! Though I can't order online, maybe my local Book-A-Million will go and get some.

Oh, and also, heres something that may be new to you guys. Someone did a modification to the d20 Modern rules, converting it to 40K stuff.  d20 Warhamer 40,000 The link cropped up on the Order of the Stick forums some time back.

To be honest, I really just want to fulfill my fantasy of marching through a hive city with a heavy bolter, "spreading the righteous word" of the God-Emperor.
