Hello all. I know I've spoken about it before, but I'd like to tell everyone about my chainmail stuff. I can make dicebags, bracelets, necklaces, or anything else really. Currently, I only have galvanized steel rings, and some colored aluminum rings, but once I start selling them I'll be able to get other metals.

Here's some pictures of what I've made, and some costs:

Dicebag: 30 bucks (I can put images on them with the aluminum rings)

Armor Bracelet: 10 bucks (I can make colored ones, I have red, violet, orange, and green rings left).

Thin Bracelet: 5 bucks (again, can be made with colored rings).

The holidays are coming up, and I think some of these could be good presents for the gamers you know. Please, let me know if you're interested in anything, even custom stuff.

I can accept payment through paypal, or other methods if you discuss.

Nice idea.

Say, how do you obtain the rings? My brother wants a suit, but doesn't want to pay for a prefab that might not fit.

Ishmayl-Retired

Do you have any way of applying patches to those dice bags?

/me thinking about special CBG Dice bags!! :)

For finite types, like human beings, getting the mind around the concept of infinity is tough going.  Apparently, the same is true for cows.

Elemental_Elf

Really cool idea!

Do you have a website?

Kindling

do you have any images of the differnt coloured rings? and how mcuh would a thinnish neckchain type thing be?
all hail the reapers of hope

Kindling, I'm going to assume you have an average neck, so I could do a necklace for about 15 to 20 bucks (easily 15 if you want the same weave as the thin one). I'll get an image of the colored rings up soon; I have red, orange, green, and violet left.

Elemental_Elf, I don't have a website yet. A store site would cost me some money to put together (having the coding to accept payment and all that). I'll be talking to a web designer friend of mine to see about helping me with it; it would be great to make this my day job.

Ishmayl, I could easily attach an embossed metal plate (just need to punch holes into it scalemail style and weave it in), a cloth patch (though I think that might look lame), or even weave a CBG logo into it. Heck, I could start a mini contest to see the best CBG logo someone can make on an 18 by 18 pixel picture using only red, orange, yellow (gold), green, blue, violet, black, and silver (the ring colors I can get easily; these are all metallic), or even copper, brass, or bronze. I can make a chain logo that size and weave it directly into the chain (I've made bags for friends that had kanji, a money symbol, a big W, and I'm making a crescent moon one right now). I could "mass produce" CBG bags if enough CBGers want them, and even kick a few bucks from each bag into the site. Let me know.

the_taken, I got the rings through "The Ring Lord" http://www.theringlord.com/. He charges much more than it would cost to make the rings on your own, but he also has different metals and such. If your brother wants to save some money and time (making a full suit would take around a month at least), I could make it for him at a low-ish cost since I'm an "amateur". The fit really isn't an issue, though, since maile flexes and stretches; for a simple suit, you only need a few measurements really.

Here's the colors I have left (I have more than the picture shows, hah; I used all my blue and yellow)

Just a bump, cause I'm poor.

Arr! My brother surfed RingLord's site a while back. I hoped you had a cheaper soirce, like a Chinese village or something.

Oh well. I will tell him about you, though.

I used to buy the wire from Home Depot and wind it by hand, using a drill and a rod I took out of a printer. Hell of a lot cheaper, though sometimes you have to discard a bit of wire when you screw up and end up with malformed links.

The advantage I see towards buying them is also a better guarantee of quality than the ones you make yourself.  I used to cut mine with wire cutters, which didn't always make it so that the links slide closed nicely, making it more likely that they'd fall out of the piece later on requiring some repairs.

If you're just starting out, you might as well buy the wire and do it yourself. Whatever you make is probably going to be of bad enough quality 'til you can get your hands into practice manipulating the links without deforming them too badly, and being able to recognize the patterns. I tried making myself a chain shirt some time back and I got as far as getting an entire sleeve done before I realized I'd have to wait 'til my chest finished growing before I could make one that would properly fit, but a few years later when I went back and looked at the sleeve it was horrible and I ended up gutting it to fix it. When you're good enough you might want to buy them, or by then you'd probably have figured out some setup to wind them appropriately. There's designs on the internet for different ways of doing it, though I went the cheapest and essentially did it by hand.

My intention is to make a proper mandrill and buy a proper hand saw so I can make great rings with the profits from this first batch.

But Ringlord is still a great source for special wires and materials. Getting your hands on anodized aluminum or titanium yourself would be quite difficult.

Was anyone still interested?
