The "elf" at his feet was actually a drow spy who had undergone significant cosmetic surgery. He had passed for a number of months evidently but gave himself away when he accidentally bumped Mrs. Claus when she was walking through the shop and instinctively fell to his knees and began to kiss her feet and beg her to spare his life. She did, but it wasn't particularly kind of her. . .
