Back in middle school, as a nod to Diablo 1, a game I was (and still am) f*cking addicted to, I visited a craft store and bought a few of these round, potion bottle like vials and filled them up with red and blue kool-aide.  I passed them out to a few mates who were also Diablo fans.

Sort of did it in high school on a rare occasion.  Contemplated selling the idea and actually making my own line of drinks like that.

But no, some company capitalized on it, selling it as a "gamer" drink, called "Mana".  It's another retarded energy drink that doesn't REALLY do much good for you.  So now I have an idea I never got to capitalize on.

Grr.

Don't worry. The Mana energy drinks taste absolutely terrible.

For the basic potions sdd cinnamon and ground tea leaf to equal parts blueberry/cranberry juice and club soda.
When crimson and azure become the sun, add chili flakes to  equal parts lemonade and orange juice.

The stat boosting potions are warm milk, plenty of confectionery sugar, and a pinch of nut meg, and some coconut flakes. Unless I'm remembering incorrectly and the stat boosting potions were black, in which case switch out the confectionery sugar for molasses.

Enjoy your refreshing potions.

Awesome. I wonder if you could add food coloring into the warm milk one and create all kinds of opaque potions.

I get ideas too, but try to capitalize as soon as possible. I try not to work with ideas that are going to take loads of capital to enable. No use coming up with something that someone else has to create.

My Gamer Printshop - RPG map printing business is one such idea. It ain't making me rich, but I have customers from all over the world, a foothold in all kinds of RPG companies, which made the transition to create maps for publishers more easily accomplished. Sure there are other companies (Kinkos) that can do this, but none advertise it exclusively like I do and accomodate by having all the basic mapping apps so I can take files in native formats for printing. As far as I know, I'm the only one in the world doing this.

I want to create my own publications and products, I've already started with a few...

In other words, work on ideas that YOU can make happen, then go for it! Forget the ideas that some big company has to buy from you then enable. Too many people get burned that way.

Just my 2 cents.

PS: hey, the Taken, there's someone over at the cartographers' guild - Kalmarjan (I think) who is in the process of creating a Gamer's Recipe book, you ought to post the potions idea or send him an Email - I'm sure it would be added to the work...

Not bad.  I originally wanted to make them simple for my own sake, but as I'm serving these at my DnD meetings (see my thread on Gleemax on setting mood), I might just spice them up a bit.  Thanks.

Yes, but then they're all the same. I have many unidentified allergies, and believe some food colourings are among them, so I don't use artificial colours. Plus you can get appropriate colouring naturally, and with an associated flavour.

Dry and ground orange peel for an orange colour, lemon peels for yellow, and lime for green.
Crushed raspberries for a pink colour, more for red. There's also orange raspberries, which are sweeter and orange, but my grandmother wont share...
Crushed blueberries for mauve. Not blue tho...

Or try blended apricots instead of the orange peels. Plums instead of raspberries for red.
Bananas blended with milk and ice make a nice yellow concoction, if a little chunky. Hot milk, honey and ginger makes a another.
Heat some milk in a pot and throw in some green tee leaves and white sugar for an ugly, green concoction. Doesn't taste horrid, just healthy. Mint is good too. In any case, the thicker the milk the better, use at least 2%.

I can't think of anything for a light blue potion. Blueberry juice is good enough for a mana potion, but an opaque white liquid brings out the red in it. Maybe melt a brick of blue cheese into a pot of skimmed milk?

You could use confectionery chocolate (the stuff that comes in little round pieces that you melt and use for candy). I recall seeing one that was a teal color (I know they make it in red and white). Melt some of that and mix it in with hot milk (probably leave out the sugar so it doesn't get too sweet.

Just throwing it out, light blue could be done with a milk base, a few added blueberries, and mint to offset the red?

Alternately, you could simply buy a pint of blue moon ice cream and let melt, although I personally find that flavor atrociously sweet (and you can't get it outside of the Midwest easily).

And I thought I was awesome using kool-aide.

My experiment with my mates DnD group last night failed, however.  I kept the cherry kool aid at only half dilution so that it wouldn't turn pink, and only added half the sugar to compensate.  Turns out nobody liked it, though I thought it was fine.  Oh well, back to the drawing board eh?

Why do blue berries turn redish in milk, anyways?

Pretty much only the outside is the distinct blue--the inside is a purplish-reddish color. And, well, there's more inside the blueberry than outside.

There may be an additional chemical change--but i think it's just the color of the juice.

But basically if you buy something blueberry flavored and it's completely blue, it's not actual blueberries :P

(It looks from photos that the color is a pretty dark purple, dilute it and you get the reddish color.)

(i have picked and squished A LOT of blueberries, though it was a long time ago--fyi the distinct light blue color is some kind of dust on the outside, it comes off when you touch it.)

I hate kool-aide. It tasted like crushed aspirine to me.

Here's a fun one.

I will have to give these all a try.  My college requires all clubs (my DnD club included) to do some kind of "event" for our spring festival.  We decided to do a main quest and a few "side quests", all taking place on campus.  In various key locations, I'll have boxes of fake money and the like, redeemable for these drinks and other such similar items.

Now, I should get back to work on my setting.  It's been hard to motivate myself to do more quest stuff and the like lately.
