Mountain time zone (US) for me.

Mostly I'm around sporadically. MW I have the kids by myself, so sustained participation is basically impossible. Most nights they start going to bed around 7:30 pm, and that is story time... After that, if I don't fall asleep with them, I might get back on around 9:30 pm.

During the day I work from home, and all the East Coast guys flake out around 3:00 pm (5 eastern), so I have a limited availability from then until the family gets home.

Quote from: Luminous CrayonI'm going to go out on a limb and assume that late evening EST (GMT -5) is going to do the most good for the most people. This should be a reasonable time for most of our western hemisphere dwellers, though it leaves Europe right out in the cold.

For a more Europe-friendly timeslot, maybe Saturdays would work, around early afternoon EST (which is mid-morning PST and late evening in Europe?)

We can pick and choose between these (and possible other options) based upon who is doing the question-answering and what is convenient for them (which must certainly be affected by where they live.)

Please offer suggestions of better times if none of these work for you. I know we have a few Europeans here at the least, and while it's going to be impossible for everyone to have a convenient time for every chat, I'd rather make sure that no one is locked out of the entire event series for geographical reasons.

Mid morning would lock me out (as well as others like Limetom who live in Hawaii and similar such areas). I don't think there is any time we can choose for one side that will allow the other to participate. So yea I agree, we are going to have to pick and choose. As for me I am available every day at and after noon (3pm EST, 8pm GMT) except Sunday.

Potentially there could be a couple of sessions if the authors were willing to repeat the Q&A at different times.  Also the sessions could always be copied over onto the forums for the perusal of those for whom the timing is inconvenient.

Nomadic

Oh I just realized, if the Euros want to do an early morning session (6-10am) I will probably still be on and can drop by.

Polycarp

Afternoon PST (evening EST, as mentioned) is best for me.  I'm up for doing two sessions if that's what we want, but we should make sure there is sufficient interest to merit that.

Quote from: SteerpikeLuminous Crayon, are you planning on getting featured as an author?

Hey, since it seems that we have a consensus for best time of day, why not go ahead and select a date? Whenever you're comfortable doing this.
It'd be uncharitable to set this event series up without eventually stepping in front of the firing squad myself, no?

I do want to give a few of our numerous more talented people a chance to go before me, though.

Someone should probably just propose a date and we'll see who can and who can't - then we can work from there.  Since I suppose I'm the most mandatory of attendees, this probably falls to me.

How about Saturday the 7th (next Saturday) at, say, 2pm PST (10pm GMT)?  I think weekends are probably our best bet for attendance, not withstanding Nomadic's objection to Sundays and Phoenix's objection to Saturdays.

This event is still on for Saturday 7, 2pm PST, as noted above.  Please post if you're interested or if you're unable to come so we have a better idea of how successful this is going to be - we can still reschedule if it's a bad time for people.

I'm the first person doing this, but it's not just for me - if this is successful we have a lot of other great worlds and writers who can be featured next.  It seems like a great idea to add to the community and make our IRC channel a more popular destination, so post and come join us!

I doubt I'll be on for this one: my weekends are pretty much taken up and I only get only sporadically at best after morning mail and coffee. Weekdays from 6p to midnight PST are pretty much open for me tho' work can interrupt at any moment and I never know when the router will get flaky, Earlier in the week seems better in that regard - less use of bandwidth so IRC connection not as likely to crash it. . .

A couple points:

Firstly, - and not that you guys need to reschedule around me - I doubt I will be able to make Saturday timeslots.  Sundays, yes, but Saturdays, I'm typically playing music with a few people.

Secondly, have you guys worked out any sort of format for the event?  You may not need one, but sometimes it helps to guide people in these types of events.  Procedure does usually help, after all!

Polycarp

I'm going to defer to LC on that second question; I'm not precisely sure what he had in mind other than a straight Q/A session.  What sort of format do you think would be helpful?
