That one's definitely better for getting a handle on the overall world.

This is the map for my new world - Aeolond. Enjoy!

I like the texture and the mountains. Pulls off the old-timey authentic feel, though the color impedes it a little.

Some of the roads seem to do odd things, if roads is what they are.

The mountains and the background paper texture are good, as is the border. The central lake is bizzarre; it seems to be the source of several rivers that flow out on all directions to reach the sea. Better watch out for the river police :ninja:

What's with the straight horizontal line going west from Lythwyn? It seems like it's supposed to be the border between "Uplands" and "Westlands" but doesn't look like a natural border. With all those mountains and the river there, you'd think that political divions would be influenced by the geographic features - as appears to be the case with the other colored areas of the map.

Map legend looks a bit out of place, style-wise. I think it could be improved a lot with a texture of a natural material, such as wood or paper. Other than these points, I think you've got a fine map here.

BTW, is this setting supposed to feature christianity? The map gives me the impression that is does.

First off, thank you both for your comments! I really, really appreciate them! :)

The color impedes it? ... Yeah I suppose so, however the map looks MUCH better with the color than with out (IMO).

. Would it be better if I increased the opacity of the colors, to make them look more faded?

As for the roads, they were there (originally) to help guide the placement of my cities and towns, I'll be redoing them for the next update :)

The central lake is bizarre. Long story short, God is weird :).

Slightly longer story: God created the world by placing every blade of grass, every tree and and forging the rivers with his own hands. God did not follow true physics when he forged the world, he did things with a little less tact. He had mountain ranges that perpetually lit them selves on fire, discs of floating earth and much more. When the Empire of Man fell, God took it hard and crafted 6 axes and ordered his angels to kill him. The world, like God, was sundered. Most of the great particularities left Aeolond, except for the 7 rivers coming from the great lake. In modern times, the 7 rivers represent the 7 columns (aka, this world's 10 commandments!). Also, just a note, there is a tiny portal at the bottom of the lake that connects it to the Elemental plane of Water; this portal perpetually fills the lake with water and sustains the attrician of the 7 rivers.

Indeed it is a border forged with a straight line. Currently the Uplands and the Westlands are at war, their border isn't formalized in any fashion. Many claim the Uplands will once more be apart of the Westlands a few years hence. The line is merely for mapping purposes.

I think I will revise the map to indicate this!

I'll keep that in mind, thanks! :)

It isn't Christianity but the religion is definitely inspired by it (with a little Norse and Islam thrown in). :)

EDIT

Nothing wrong with god not being a physicist, however, unless god has made erosion a non-existing process, the lake would eventually erode down to one river exiting only. You can't tell me, god took away erosion!

Just so you know, I was the first deputized River Police man over at the CG, so I'm watchin' you!

PS: you're house is now surrounded, I pulled rank and canceled the call to a negotiator. I'm callin' in SWAT, we'll fix this situation - one shot, one kill. Take care of things nicely, I think... (adjusting mirrored sunglasses.)

I actually like this idea, it definitely makes for interesting plot points. I think it would be interesting if the 3 north-western rivers were slowly drying up, while the 4 south-western rivers are as well but the kingdoms are frantically pumping water out via massive magical Archimedes' screws... Actually this works well with in some of the trans-national guild network this world has  :D

Quote from: Elemental_Elfmountain ranges that perpetually lit them selves on fire,
Wow, what a cool idea. It'd be awesome to have still some lone mountains still flaming, even if most of them ceased long ago.

Quote from: Elemental_ElfWhen the Empire of Man fell, God took it hard and crafted 6 axes and ordered his angels to kill him.
That's an interesting twist. Certainly not something I expected.

I think it was the terminology and map symbols used that led to the impression. Anyway, it seems you've come up with something more than a typical fantasy adaptation of archetypical monotheist elements.

As for the map, I like the new improved border, but I also prefer the more faded colors. I'd combine those to one map were I in your shoes - but do as best suits your own tastes.

Oh and don't let the river police get you! :)

Pretty impressive. The mountains and forests are excellent, but the rivers look like they're floating above the terrain. The map symbols and fonts are nice. The shape of the landmass kind of reminds me of North America.
