Hmm, yeah, it would be easier for a gamemaster to just assign arbitrary "alignment points". Of course, the alignments should describe tv-character types rather than whether the character is good/evil.

Hmm, i'm having some doubts about whether it will actually be interesting to include "tv character types" as an element in the system. Doesn't seem to add a lot except complexity... i think it would be better without, or if it was just up to DM fiat.
I do think i will use a class-based or semi-class based system. Maybe akin to the callings of UnMet (that is, a class without levels). Also, if i decide not to use DnD, the game could probably do with less stats (many of the mental stats could be grouped together).
But how visceral should it be? at what level of mortality would this game be best? Should the characters be over-powered heroes with a definite advantage plowing their way through inferior Participants, or should they be just as prone to awesome deaths as their fellow NPCs? I have the feeling that this is a game where you shouldn't get too attached to your character...

You could use the S.U.D.S. system.

This is the easiest system in the world.
As a GM just assign a number to whatever a character is trying to do, and have the player roll a d20. Then you just tell them the results. This system allows a GM to play a story driven game without worrying about mechanics or whether the rules allow them to do that.

Really, there are two things the system should be able to handle: extreme cinematic sequences and awesome weaponry and gadgetry which also serves as the main reward system. So while something free-form like S.U.D.S. handles the first well, every weapon would basically handle the same. Could be handled by the GM, but still, not quite the same as knowing you blasted off all the limbs of the guy without breaking the rules.

Better weapons would have lower rolls needed. The crappy, nearly broken laser pistol used by a novice might need a roll of 18 to hit. But the top of the line, state of the art plasma rifle used by an expert marksman might only need a roll of 5 to hit the same target.

Yeah, but how would you feature weapons such as the Farsaw V and the T331? They have external effects.

whoever is being attacked gets a roll to dodge. Also S.U.D.S. allows scaling rolls. In the Farsaw example let's say the target gets a low roll. Then they are hit for full damage and effect. If they get a mediumish roll then maybe they just barely got out of the way and actually get scraped or roll with the blow, and don't get banged up too badly. And if they get a high roll they completely avoid it (this time).

This looks really cool, in a slightly over-the-top sort of way. I really like the phrase "that tiny animal within us" - it sounds like the title of a novel, somehow.
