Kidnapping CBGers

Ok I admit it, I have kidnapped a CBGer, more than one actually. But you all are just so good as cameo material. To name a couple examples in Mare Eternus...

Xeviant - Small curious creature akin to an imp that is occasionally domesticated as a seaman's pet (since they are often found stowing away on ships). Many ship captains have been known to have one or two.

Goethling - Insect sized semi-sentient being that prizes fruity food and drink, especially wine.

The Spearshrike Drift - An uncharted area on the edge of the expanse rumored to house a nameless horror.

So then... who else is guilty of blatant cbg member referencing in their campaign worlds?

Hibou

I had a mini-pantheon of angels in Haveneast, one of which was the Salacious Angel.

Sorry Kindling, but I've got that beat. I've been trying to stay modest, but I can't hold it in...You know Ishmayl's new Cerulean Saga? I'm the star!

It's my big break, my first staring role, and I'm so psyched. But don't worry, I won't forget the people that helped me get here when I'm famous! If I get the Academy, you bet you'll get a mention.

I like this feel-good thread. :yumm:

In all likelihood, I've hidden CBG references somewhere in the Jade Stage, but I'll be damned if I can find any of them today. I swipe ideas and names from all over the place, mix them in weird combinations, and throw them into the blender until their origins are unrecognizable. You can't expect me to keep track of the mysterious hidden origins of everything, can you?

Seriously, I'll have a country that's politically inspired by a world news story I heard last week, geographically inspired by a mashup of the contents of three hours of the National Geographic channel, and named with an anagram of a NPR anchor's name, and then I'll let it sit in a notebook for three years, and then I'll revisit it and start tweaking things for no particular reason until I like it better.

At the end of the process, I no longer remember what the ingredients were, just that I like the cake.

This made me smile.  We need more threads like this.

For finite types, like human beings, getting the mind around the concept of infinity is tough going.  Apparently, the same is true for cows.

Agreed... also, my setting has turtle ships... no not the Korean ones... actual ships on the back of turtles. I've been thinking of naming one the Ishmayl's Might

I wholeheartedly agree with ALL (if any) logic you used to make said decision.

The uncivilized region immediately to the east of the main Crystalstar campaign area is known as the "Nomadic Lands."

Obviously a reference to you. :P

Actually, Ishmayl (as Ishmael) and Poseidon have cameos in Eschaton. And pretty much anyone else named after mythological figures, too.

In my revised version of Aeolond I have:

Lyamsi - An eccentric man who lives in the forests of the Farlands. He collects the essence of deceased river turtles, preserving them in a large kappa shell (that he wears on his back).

Cidamon of Haggis - A tall, strapping Ankyr warrior, Cidamon is the Laird of Haggis and chieftain of clan Haroffal. Cidamon is more of an adventurer than a lord and is as such often seen venturing into the Fyrlands, to wrestle the fiery creatures that inhabit that land. Rumor has it, Mocadin even made his way up to the Northlands and saved the Duke of Union's life by strangling a Wyvern with his bare hands.

Geerv Svarketill - A Theologian, brother of the renown Dark Age tyrant Freyborn Svarketill, was the first human to translate the Tales of Lehta and the Epics of Fyr from Elvish to Aeolondic. His translations are the oldest documents written in the vernacular of that time period.

Cheom Esh - An odd little Boggart merchant from Blackport who sells partially used unlicensed magic items. Most people refer to him as Old Eshy, though considering Boggarts don't live past 15 years, it is an odd nickname indeed.

Ghostman - A Golden Shield wielded by St. Rowland as he united Aeolond into the Second Empire. The shield acquired it's name, Ghostman, when the body guard of St. Rowland, one Draugurman, was slain by a rampaging centaur. The guardsmen's belief in St. Rowland's cause was so great that he transcended death and became a ghost, who now dwells within the shield. It is said that Ghostman will appear to those in the most dire of situations. The last known sighting of Ghostman was in the north, where the Duke of Union used it to shield himself from the fire breath of a Wyvern, thus saving his life and giving Cidamon of Haggis the necessary distraction he needed to get up close and strangle the Wyvern to death.

The Dragon Lys (lit. Light) - A Dragon believed to be sent down to Aeolond by the goddess Lehta, Lys aided St. Rowland when he traveled to the dark lands of Thros, on a mission to recover the holy relic known as the Orb of Ackley. Lys sacrificed himself to destroy the Lich Carlyle the Whitehanded. Today the tallest tower of Oldkipp Palace is named in his honor.

Sirius X. -  An elven swashbuckler, renown for his dashing looks and his veracious love of female Boggarts. Sirius made his career off intercepting and looting merchant vessels headed to Boggartia. Unfortunately, Sirius' career was cut short when he was caught red fingered with the Queen of Boggartia. The Queen's and Sirius' heads still adorn a large trident outside of the Royal Palace.

Sparkling Twist- A legendary metal-less Pick created by the eccentric sorcerer Noy Arc. Sparkling Twist was crafted by magically twisted a thousand thin sticks of a sparkling wood( known as Hedur) around one another, forming what appears to be an oversized gnarled cane. The tip is said to be so sharp it can puncture a piece of ebony wrapped in a coat of the thickest dragon hide. Sparkling Twist has been lost for centuries, it's last owner was believed to be Freyborn Svarketill.

Noy Arc - An eccentric sorcerer who lived during the Dark Ages. Noy Arc claimed to have been half immortal, but no one is quite sure what that means. Arc earned his fame by crafting many legendary items during the Dark Ages including Sparkling Twist and the Golden Shield haunted by the ghost Draugurman. The last anyone saw of old Noy Arc, he was wading into the northern ocean, looking for a giant Sea Panda (which are quire rare).
