O Senhor Leetz

Hey all, I just went through some of my Arga related art and gussied it up a bit. I was just curious as to what others thought of the old/new versions and what ones to present with my campaign. These are the new ones, the old ones are still on the Arga thread.

At any rate, Leetz, I have to tell you the new stuff is much, much better. The pics are grittier, more intimate and they seem to pop off the screen! :)

Wow.  "Gritty" yes, and also very evocative . . . yet playfully stylized in a way as well.  I like.

Really love the text all over the statue in the last image (including text covering her otherwise blank and featureless face). Very compelling.
I move quick: I'm gonna try my trick one last time--

The second picture reminds me the "look and feel" of Curse of Monkey Island (perhaps for the twirls in the column?). Really liked it.
BTW, I don't know if it was intended or not, but the leftmost side of the picture is out of focus; perhaps if you could do that to the whole background, it would enhance the character.

O Senhor Leetz

thanks all for the feedback. I'll get to touching up the rest of the Arga art soonish. I also touched up the world map, which makes it darker, but I think better and perhaps even a bit easier to read. (plus the "crease" stands out more, which is totally rad)

also, a more detailed doodle of the Dura.

You're absolutely right!  I love it when a world map for a setting actually looks like an old fashioned map, and that crease down the middle definitely gives it an added sense of realism in that way.

O Senhor Leetz

well, since I seem to be on a roll today, here is a doodle of a female vorr. (she's so purty)

Ghostman

Is baldness fashionable among female Vorr? Anyway, she looks like someone you don't want to mess with. Perhaps a bit androgynous by Human standards, but not so when compared to that male Vorr.

hah, well I really didn't know what to do for hair, so I just left it as is. I probably could have at least put some tattoos up there. And I really didn't start out with the intention of a female Vorr, it just kinda ended up looking more feminine than masculine, even though it is a bit androgynous. Like Tilda Swinton.

It only looks feminine when compared with the picture of the male Vorr.

SDragon

The left foot of the... Dura? (sorry, I haven't read Arga yet, I'm just guessing from the info in this thread) in the second drawing seems very twisted; The leg seems to be facing frontwards just as much as the right, but then suddenly at the ankle, it goes off to the side. It looks to be a structural issue. My advice is to stand with both feet facing forwards, then adjust to the desired pose, paying attention to where your legs go.

My other main issue is the line quality, mostly on the curves, but this is probably a stylistic thing. I like the statue (specifically the breasts) and the left arm of the Vorr, but a lot of the rest of the lines seem to fall kind of... flat. I haven't looked too closely at the sketches in the other posts, though.

Random thought: Are you left-handed? For some reason, the overall quality of these seems almost asymmetric, and it looks like it favors the right-hand side of the page.

hey man, thanks for the criticism (seriously!). Yeah, the first two drawings are definitely lacking in depth, but in my defense, those were with a #2 Pencil. For the statue and the portraits (the portraits I thought turned out very well) I actually had a set of decent drawing pencils (different hardness's, shades, etc.).

But I agree, that foot is weird, and I wasn't too happy with the first two beyond a basic attempt to show what the races looked like - especially the arms: were not happy with any of those.

What did you think of the two portraits? They are asymmetrical, but I like them that way, adds some uniqueness. (I am also NOT left-handed, not sure what that means, haha)

No problem! I used to enjoy frequenting a forum for showcasing and critiquing art, so it's something I'm comfortable offering.

It means you use your left hand more predominantly than your right hand. Most people are right-handed, but there's still a decent percentage of left-handed people out there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left-handedness
