I liked Donna Noble, the actress - Catherine Tate - is a very funny comedian. She was an odd choice for the Doc's companion but once we found out her back story, it made sense.  

The clips I have seen make it look like Smith is not up to the challenge. It looks like he's trying to play David Tennant's Doctor instead of his own. Can't be sure yet, though. Also, one trailer shows him firing a gun. NO.

I really didn't like the character of Donna Noble. I thought she was just obnoxious most of the time.

Well Smith may feel a bit awkward being the youngest doctor and trying to out youth Tenent. Give him a season and I'm sure he'll come into his own.

As for the gun... Maybe he really is a different Doctor - younger, edgier.

Donna Noble was meant to be obnoxious, she was the opposite of the Doctors other companions who were loving, doting little girls.

Still, no one can beat Rose.

Some people are saying they'll give him an episode or two. Since the whole season is filmed at once, he has no chance to respond to feedback from the fans that way. I'm giving him a season and the following Christmas special. If he screws that up, I can wait for the next Doctor (which shouldn't be long). I'm looking forward to the high def, though. I have the last few specials on Bluray and Waters of Mars in high def looks better than anything else I've ever seen. It blows the hell out of American blockbuster movies in picture quality.

Rose was pretty good but the was she talked sometimes bothered me. Leela made me chuckle from time to time. She usually had a quick response that involved killing something.

I may or may not have been in the room with one of those people and may or may not be able to tell you that it seems Mat Smith is not going to ruin Doctor Who. If this is true, I will be very happy when I can buy this season in high def on Bluray.

Having seen the first episode, I can assure you all that Mr. Smith makes a fine Doctor.
It remains to be seen if he's any more than just fine, but first impressions left me with NOTHING negative to say :)

He's rather ugly. That's something. I really liked David Tennant but Matt Smith seems like he'll do well enough. Maybe we should have a discussion thread for Doctor Who?
