I have honestly never figured out how to do this, and I'm not sure if you can on these forums.  Anyone else want to field this one?

where you see "5826.0" "5826" refers to the thread, ".0" refers to the first post to show, in this case, the first one, 0. (the count goes 0,1,2, etc.) if you change the number, the page will start at a different post.

It looks a bit weird though, especially on a one-page-thread: earlier posts are simply cut off. At first I didn't even realize something had changed.

That works quite well indeed; I just set up a table of contents on my main thread  here.  Just quoting the posts you are linking to seems the best way to find out the post number.  Thanks for the help!
