Quote from: beejazzLuck name sounds cooler. Also, people are going to be more familiar with what luck means than with what "spirit" means. As for the silent concensus... okay. The best names (IMHO) for the existing abilities are Dexterity, Agility, Toughness, and Strength.

I agree that Luck sounds better, but as a stat...ehh.

Strength:  no argument.
Toughness:  no argument.
Coordination: Is this what you mean by agility?  If so, Coordination works better.
Reaction Time:  Reflex works better, even Reaction Time is fine, to me.

beejazz

Agreed on coordination, unless something better pops up. I don't like "reaction time". Reflex maybe. Reaction time for the lose.

Just a conspiracy of cartographers, then?

I vote reflex, and agility over coordination.

Start voting folks! :P

COORDINATION over agility.
REFLEX.

What?

beejazz

Agility=Reflex
Coordination is something else entirely
Picking a lock is neither reflex nor agility

Coordination was one of the four base stats previously discussed.
QuoteStrength (Str)

Coordination (Co)

Reaction Time (ReT)

Toughness (Tns)

No picking a lock is a learned skill, separate from base stats, I would think.  If a character wants to be a lock pick, the greatest asset to him would be patience.

Wensleydale

Picking a lock would be governed by coordination, although a separate skill would be needed...

Ishmayl-Retired

Picking a lock would be governed more than anything by practice and experience, and most likely, would be a combination of intelligence and dexterity.  Coordination seems the most likely candidate out of the stats you guys have proposed, since coordination can be a learned skill.  (Example:  I play drums, and am much more coordinated with playing them than I was when I started, through years of practice and experience)

For finite types, like human beings, getting the mind around the concept of infinity is tough going.  Apparently, the same is true for cows.

SilvercatMoonpaw

Strength and Toughness seem to be settled, since no one is opposing them

Here's what I was thinking when I came up with the four stats:
Coordination = How well you move.  It has nothing to do with how fast.  A coordinated person can dance without getting their feets tangled up, or throw a ball up in the air at catch it.  Both of these things can be done quite slowly, but if you aren't coordinated then all your parts are not going to move how you want them.
Reaction Time (Reflex is better): How fast you can move in response to something.  Reacting to an attack to get out of the way in time.  Sure, you could say that you need coordination to pull that off all the way, but just to know and to get your body moving all you need is quick reaction to it.

Magic can do without a Spirit stat necessarily, but if we don't have one that at least kind of deals with mental areas, what are we doing for will-type saves?

Is there anyone who is a little confused as to what additional points in a talent or spell would do? I can give examples if so.

snakefing

If you can buy your saves up directly, why do you need a stat for it?

Conversely, if you have saves for some stats, why not for all of them?

Just food for thought.

So, the general agreement SEEMS to be on stats of Strength, Toughness, Coordination and Reaction Time...
