So... we still link to the Cartographer's Guild and the Fantaseum Alliance on our front page, but a quick look at their site's front page does not seem to link to the CBG. Is there any chance that we can get them to add a link back to us from there? Or did I just miss seeing their reciprocal link?

Gamer Printshop

I remember Ravs thinking that there was little cross-interaction between the CBG and the CG. I'll make an enquiry and see if that can be reset.

there are regularly people who post world building stuff with their maps there, who totally would be interested here. We recommend the CartoGuild when someone wants to do a map for their setting when they post here.

Oh, I know that. I think Rav'a (CL) thought the CBG was dead. I'll go remind the CL's - I know Ghostman among others are regulars on the CG, just as there are members who come here too. Perhaps not as often as I do, but come they do.

Nomadic

I used to be a regular (I still would be if I had more free time). I have been thinking about talking with them about hosting a friendly cross-site competition combining mapping and campaign building.

Gamer Printshop

I think that has happened once long ago. I am sure it would go over well. Perhaps I'll post a Challenge Idea of doing just that. Tell some details on what your ideas are and I'll start a thread. Perhaps have a contest here to write the basis of a story or setting, and have the CG do a contest to map it...

Was actually discussing some contest ideas with sdragon the other day. Let me mull it over for tonight and we'll go from there.

I contacted the admin at the CG, and discovered that in one of the upgrades, the links got dropped, it was not intentional. They are verifying with the site owner that the links should be reinstated.

Nomadic

Just sent a pm to RobA to see what he thinks of the idea.

All that sounds good!

As far as the competition goes; what about instead of a simple competition, do a partnership thing. That is a CBG member partners with a "buddy" at the cartographer's guild and they collaborate on something together. That way, the strengths of both sites are highlighted- and people work on both sites rather than compete with each other. Together the artist and the author create the world. It may be complicated, but it may be fun.

Nomadic

My thought had been for everyone to write on a place, either in their setting or just made up. Then the mappers could grab places and map them out. However that's certainly a possibility.

Kaptn'Lath

i suggested this (making adventures, locations, ect with the Cartoguild) back in the "What do you want to see with the CBG?" thread when Nom took over and it damn near turned into a flame war.

This will fail when partners drop out of the game halfway due to lack of time, lost interest, etc.

Ghostman- I was sort of figuring that the mapmaker either makes a map and then one of us derives a setting from it, subject to the mapmaker's approval/collaboration ; or the mapmaker selects one of our settings to make a map from. This would challenge us to make a setting that suits the map's style and/or vice versa.

In fact, their map could already be made. It could be a 'matchmaking service'; match the map with a setting and in return, the mapmaker designs a map in the style of one of our settings.

Not much time to fall-out in that case. All that has to be delivered is one thing for each person. If the partners don't talk back and forth much, a product will still be produced; that is there will be a map and a setting.

Alright, I contacted RobA, the co-Admin at the CG (before Nomadic did), and he responded that he'd contact Arcana (Robbie) the true site Admin/owner of the CG. I just got a PM from Robbie, and this was his response...

"Absolutely, lets put them back. I still have the fantaseum web page too. I took the forum and wiki down due to spam, but the domain and basic homepage (with the spring '08 e-zine) is still there."

So it's going be done. That's that.
