Possessions: boots of striding and springing; 3,800 gp; backpack, entertainer's outfit, disguise kit, signet ring, small steel mirror.

Minions: By virtue of her Leadership feat, Debby Nelson leads the Arena Girls, a squad of six fellow cheerleaders (human female bard 1). She is currently taking a break from her on-again, off-again cohort, quarterback Chet Anderson.

[ic=The Arena Girls]The Arena Girls cheerleaders are pleased to announce that the Arena Girls are now available for hire! In any match where all combatants agree that the services of the Arena Girls are available for use, the Arena Girls will stand on the sidelines and cheer for whichever combatant or combatants have wagered the highest amount for the current match. (The minimum bid is 100 gp.)

When you have the Arena Girls on your side, you gain more than just moral support; you gain a morale bonus from the inspire courage bardic class ability of our talented head cheerleader. That grants you a +2 morale bonus on attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, saves against charm effects, and saves against fear effects! The inspiration effect begins a round before you roll initiative and continues for the duration of your match!

Pursuant to league safety rules, the Arena Girls stand along an area of the sidelines that cannot be penetrated by any effect originating inside the arena. The Arena Girls are not responsible for effects occurring inside the arena that happen to negate the benefits of their inspire courage ability.

All fees paid for the Arena Girls services are collected prior to the match and are non-refundable. Arena combatants conduct bidding for the Arena Girls' services amongst themselves, then PM the winning bid to Epic Meepo. The winning bidder is thereafter responsible for keeping track of the Arena Girls' inspire courage effect during the match for which the Arena Girls have been hired.
[/ic]

By the way, this is a sanctioned idea he came up with that I love. Meepo, you should post this in the Fight Registry thread as well. Remember folks, the Arena Girls grant you bonus for being there, and can also get the croud on your side. :)

Quote from: Xathan, the Archbishop of Cabbage5) You use starting gold out of the DMG, maximum item cost is 1/5 your total starting gold.
This makes absolutely no sense for a 1st level character, who would only be able to spend 20 gp at most (1st level gold according to the DMG is 100 gp), meaning that a light crossbow, a starting package item for several classes, is inaccessable, along with several other starting package items.

I haven't made a first level fighter yet.  But I think it should be 900 -- this keeps the equity the other levels have, works with the 1/5 restriction, and isn't insanely out of balance with the 300 gp the gladiators will get for -winning- a match.

limetom

Quote from: mnemeFirst level characters have 900 gold.
Hate to disagree, but that's wrong.  The 900 gp is the expected wealth gain to 2nd level.  That means they should have their starting gold plus approximately 900 gp by the time they hit 2nd level.  See Behind the Curtain: Treasure Values on page 54.

I guess that works, but I don't know.  It seems like an awful lot of wealth for a 1st level character.  I usually go off of these charts, specifically the second one in this case.

Furthermore, the 1/5th thing is wierd.  In every other instance I've encountered it, its been set at 1/4th.  I guess there's not much of a difference, but its just kind of wierd to me.

I think you need a special rule for 1st level characters, since special rules wouldn't have much effect at later levels, but the difference between what a first level character starts out with and what they get from encounters/gladiatorial matches is extreme.  "They start with 450" would probably be fine, as would "they start with 600" or even "they start with 900".  Or, I guess, you could have them start out normally but increase their cap to their entire starting wealth -- but I'll note that this overpowers winning gladiators over their inexperienced opponents, compared to 600 with a 120gp cap per individual item.

I think it got held over from charged items having 1/5 as many charges.  Oh well, too late to change it now.

And I think 1st level characters should just start with max starting gold for their class.  900 is too much, if you ask me.

Darkxarth

Last week, while working on a character, I had a question about double weapons, the quarterstaff in particular.  So I sent my question to Xathan, and he responded.

Quote from: XathanHonestly, I'm not sure. The staff itself is one item...but I guess, for the purposes of the arena, it'll count as two items for determining max gold.
I posted this here (on Xathan's request) so that everyone else wouldn't have to ask about it too.  I looked and couldn't find one, and neither could Xathan, but it's possible we overlooked it.  Does anyone know an actual rule about this?

Captain Obvious

Hey, quick question.
Is there an actual limit set by the rules on the number of spells one may cast per round? or is it limited by the fact that you only get one standard and one swift action per turn (normally limiting you to 2 spells max).

The reason i ask is this...

Quote from: Enlightened Fist (CompArc)An Enlightened fist can spend one of her daily stunning attempts to cast and deliver a touch spell as part of an unarmed full attack action. She can choose to deliver the spell with any single unarmed strike she makes during the action.
So based on this, if i had multiple attacks and had enough stunning fist attempts remaining, could i cast a touch spell as part of each attack in the action? It seems stupid but nothing says you can't IIRC (this class feature isn't worded as carefully as other similar ones).

I sincerely doubt i would actually use this, but was wondering out of curiosity.

in other news, i just burnt my hand on a railing. how did i pull off this amazing feat? news at 11.

The reason i ask is this...

Quote from: d20srd.orgYou may attempt a stunning attack once per day for every four levels you have attained (but see Special), and no more than once per round.
So, I would say that this also limits you ability.

Also, upon looking at the ability again, it does say you may use one Stunning Fist attempt to cast a spell as part of a Full-Round Attack, so I think the ability itself is limiting in the number of spells you can use per round through that.
