The World

Past
"It was a day. Not necessarily a bad day, or a good day, just merely a day. But it was a day that no one would forget....

On that oh so average day, something not so average began to happen. The ground began to glow... a rippling shimmering light, not so different from the Night skies of the old tundras. But all of a sudden we looked at the sky! It was different. Very different indeed, and by the time we came to our senses. We we're in a new land, full of strange, strange creatures, and the strangest of all...  Humans..."

December 1901, Tella Gresellda,(Unicorn) recounting to her grandchildren about her "Immigration Experience"

The Dynama Enigma

It was the year of 1853. The United States was on the brink of another revolution, Turkey was about to go to war with Russia, and Paris was under reconstruction. All of a sudden though something strange happened. A weird glow began to permeate the entire planet. Everywhere the reports were the same; a strange borealis like glow just began to resonate through out the entire planet. When everything settled down the world was relatively intact.... Except for the fact that there were now Dragons!!!

To put it in the most tactful manner possible, the earth merged with another plane of existence, and it also happened to be a very magical realm of existence. Full of dragons, and all sorts of monsters and weird creatures.

Not much differed in terms of major events, but they did take on different flavors. The American Civil War still happened, and the union ultimately won. However reconstruction wen't a bit differently. The Ku Klux Klan was wiped out early on by the dragons that inhabited America because of a dragon hatching being killed in a rally. It sent a very clear message to mankind. Don't mess with dragons! Blacks and whites ultimately united together in the south. When in a world now inhabited by Kobolds and Unicorns, "race" didn't seem quite as important anymore.

77 Years Later

It is now 1930. Things have calmed down a little bit after the stock market crashed in 1929.

But not by much... It's been 13 years after the Great War, and things have been changing fast. The idiotic Treaty of Versaile ultimately left the world torn apart. The National Socialists in Germany have taken power extremely fast due to their obsessions with Paganism and the Occult. A dragon named Carmennokra now rules Communist Russia with iron claws.

This setting will focus on each part of the world as it's written out. Please Don't post in this thread. You can talk about this here.

!0 things to Know about Dynama Enigma

1. No Standard Races: I hold little affection (although no anomocity) towards the standard dnd races. Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, Halflings, Etc. I will be using nonhumanoid races for my setting, and will be back with more information on races later

2. Dieselpunk Fantasy: Dynama was my first setting I created on this forum, and i've been trying to reboot this setting forever. Basically it was a fantasy world where... will it's been through so many incarnations. Technology vs. Magic, Magitek, etc, etc.
Will now I tried doing the opposite. Making an alternate history setting where dnd monsters and stuff came into existence.

3. Not much has changed in the way of historical events: The civil war happened, the Great War happened. The panama canal got built. Not much has changed in the way of historical events other than when and how they happened. That means that WW2 is probably on it's way, but no one knows when it will happen....

4. Grey Morality: There are very few creatures in DE: SnS that are pure evil, and pure good. Most of the time the lines are pretty blurry in motivation. There are however planar creatures that are pretty much eitehr good or evil, but they rarely make contact with the "material plane" (earth).

5. Planes of Existence: Nobody knows what happened on that day in 1853. All of a sudden magical creatures and monsters just came into existence on Earth. The one theory that has stuck though is the theory of Planar weaving. Earth is now connected to magical realms of existence. The elemental planes, and many other planes of existence now have influence and power on earth. However getting to the planes is a bit tricky and not many people know how it works yet.

6. Magic: In this world magic comes in many different forms and flavors. Lix Lickers for instance are the most common form of magic in America who are basically powered by drinking potent elixirs. Artifice is a pretty common form of magic, and even a few conventional forms of traditional magic as well.

7. If it has a place in D&D, then it probably has a place in Dynama Earth: Potentially you could use anything from source material. However this should be left up to the tastes of the DM (who is myself so there really wasn't any point in jotting this down).

8. PG to PG-13 tone: I have nothing against a little darkness, but I don't like outright gory horror, and all that awful stuff.

9. Pulp/Noir: This world does take a lot of stuff from pulpy fiction, and Noir cinema. It being a Dieselpunk world this should come as no shock.

10. Politics: Oh boy here we go... Uhm... Just expect a very "Libertarian/Classical Liberal" view in this setting. However I will say I'm trying to keep this as fun and light hearted as I possibly can, however this being the early 20th century it's really hard not to have certain viewpoints.

Reserved for later (for the record I decided to break up the Setting into two pieces; General rules, Races, Magic systems etc. And the other half to be the world details.
