Matt Larkin (author)

Well, in the last few posts, I've only seen a handful of bands I've even heard of.  And maybe 2-3 I would listen to...At least we know the CBG brings lots of variety in tatse!

Very nice ones, those.

Elven Doritos

Currently at the top of my playlist:
Jay-Z/DJ Danger Mouse: The Grey Album
(Jay-Z vocals plus The Beatles instrumentals, all mixed my Danger? I'm  in!)

Kanye West: The College Dropout
(Loads of fun and some seriously inspiring tracks. If you think rap is all gangsta, check out Kanye-- he's for everyone. I saw two old women, probably in their 60's, come to the rap section at my local Borders to pick this up.)

Nas: Stillmatic
(One Mic and Ether are genius)

Makaveli: The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory
(Tupac Shakur's last work recorded in its entirety prior to his death. Darker and more thuggish than most of his work, it's still an amazing and haunting literary achievement.)

2Pac: Me Against the World
(Pre-drama, prior to the arrests and the faux thug persona, this album marks an introspective look into Pac's life. Dear Mama is one of my favorite tracks on any album.)

Dr. Dre (and many, many others): The Chronic 2001
(Presenting classics such as a fiending Eminem on What's the Difference and Forgot About Dre, as well as Bang, Bang and The Next Episode, the good outweighs the trite in this soundclash)

Outkast: Stankonia
(What else to say except: André 3000, Ms. Jackson, and loads of fun?)

There are loads more that I'm not feeling right now, but those are my current favorites.
Oh, how we danced and we swallowed the night
For it was all ripe for dreaming
Oh, how we danced away all of the lights
We've always been out of our minds
-Tom Waits, Rain Dogs

Ishmayl-Retired

Always a good thread to revive.

Currently on major rotation in the Lil' Monsta (Sansa):

Lagwagon:  Trashed

NOFX:  Punk in Drublic

Propaghandi:  Less Talk, More Rock

Face to Face:  Eponymous album

Yeah, I'm on a bit of a punk kick right nowl

Zack de la Rocha (Rage Against the Machine's singer) also does Mexican folk music, called Son Jarocho.

Here's a mini-documentary on it.
