Looking through the Empire thread it seemed having Alcander for the name of the first Emperor and the title of succeeding emperors seemed to be the consensus. For example the 7th emperor could have been Nixus Alcander.

So with this in mind, what should be the name of the Empire?
I agree with Turin who said:
Quote from: WendsImperium of Allaha
Empire of Daan
Callin Empire
Sadun Empire
Ebarus Empire

Choose any, or make up your own, but please can we get some cohesiveness on this?

Next, the first Emperor, and probably the most important god.

African theme:
Emperor Babatunde ('Father Loves Me', 'Beloved of Father')
Emperor Baakir ('Eldest', 'Firstborn')
Emperor Chabwera/Chabuera ('He has arrived at last')
Emperor Chionesu ('A guiding light')

Eastern Theme:

Emperor Addar (Ruler, Prince)
Emperor Akbar (Greatest, Most Powerful)
Emperor Farid (Singular, Unique, Precious)
Emperor Jaali (Fearless)

Latin/Greek Theme:

Emperor Alcander/Alexander (Strong, Fearless)
Emperor Alexis (Protector of Man or possibly the Empire)
Emperor Eneas (The Praised One)
Emperor Adeodatus (Given by God)
Emperor Claud (Lame one, possibly the name of the last Emperor)
Emperor Sol (The Sun)
Alcan
Alcander
Cander
Canderia

The language and culture names could thus be:
Alcanian
Alcanis
Alcanderin
Alcanderan
Alcanderian
Canderan
Canderian
Canderis[/quote]

The name of the highest priest? What's his title? (Who is about on the same level as the Emperor)
The name of the founder of the second Empire?
Any other names that could be thought of...

Oh, the Head Saintanist?
'Prime Speaker for the Blessed' comes to mind, since he is supposed to be the mouthpiece of the wisdonm of all the Empire-saints.

LOL Saintanist... That made me laugh.

I like Prime Speaker for the Blessed, possibly Prime Speaker, or even Blessed Speaker. Though, I have to go back and see what we decided or were discussing the Emperor's connection to the Saints was. Whether the voice or part Saint... I can't remember

Edit: He is believed to be a demigod, so the head priest being the Speaker or "voice" of the blessed works.

Holy ventriloquist dolls Batman! That gives greater meaning to the formal address of "Your Immanence." Not just a god idea; it's the lore. . .

Blessed Speaker has a good ring to it. A reward for high fidelity. Would his acolytes be sub-woofers?

The HE in the quote was referring to the Emperor. The Emperor is believed to be a demigod. Just clarification.

The highest priest (hee hee Saintanist hee hee), can still be the voice of the Saints.

So we still need name ideas for the Empire (New and Old if they are different), and the current Emperor....

Any other names needed?

S&M, the Saint worship is based on ancient rulers and historical figures who typified the credo of the old Empire, and heroic figures from it.  Kind of like ancestor worship.
So almost all old Emperors (and thus, new one as well) are saints...

Now, If I remember rightly, the rebirth of the Empire came from an individual, the New Emperor, who was born in a remote coastal village that had once been one of the primary berths for the old navy.  at the same time he was building power there, the Saintanists had been consolidating their power, feeding on people dissatisfaction (though what kind of government they were dissatisfied with, I don't recall) and filling their thoughts with how noble their ancestors life had been in the days of the first Empire.  The new Emperor and the Saint religion used each other to trigger a revolution to the new empire.  two groups both riding on the tail of a mighty dragon, barely in control, both needeing the other.

Poseidon, that sound right?

More detailed than what has been discussed, but yes that is correct.

No one has any names for anything?

The new capital can be 'Vesture'.
The Founder of the Second Empire can be Baerdic Addricson.

hhhmmmm I'm indifferent, what does everyone else think?

Wouldn't he have renamed himself Baerdic Alcander? Anyway I like the name Baerdic. It's not light and fluffy. It is more harsh sounding, perfect for someone starting a new evilish empire.

From your addition to the Saints, instead of calling the capital Vesture, what about Kedrik?

Okay, so Kedrik's the capital? Now we need a name for the Empire itself. I like the idea of working off an Egypto-Greek creole language - simply because that would incorporate a large portion of the world's linguistic components but would be moving away from the stereotyped latin empire. In that case, we've got a vast amount of words to work off.

Alexander is a latinisation of Alexandros (or Alcandros), which is a compound of something like alexein (to defend) and andros (possessive 'man'), therefore, 'Defender of man'.   Now, through simple sound changes, contractions etc we can reach 'Alcander' (possibly a combination of 'alkein', which could be an accusative 'protection' and 'di', the latter being an extension of 'to give' in egyptian). Therefore, perhaps 'Alcander' (Alkeindi) could be a compound meaning something like 'To give protection', or, in context, 'giver of protection'.

This is an overcomplicated process, I'll admit. But this is just an example of how we can mess about with linguistics and nomenclature in our empire. Now, here's the clever part, we turn Alkeindi (to give protection, giver of protection) into a nation name by, perhaps, placing a locative particle at the beginning - Setm Alkeindi (in the place to give protection). This would then be 'In the place that gives protection' which in itself, if we assume this is the old form of the language, will be an almost subliminal message to the people that the Empire itself is a protector.

...

Well, that will probably have been of no interest whatsoever to non-linguists. But there we are. :)

Poseptune

I admit I am no linguist, and it is good that you've taken an interest in this subject once again Golem.

Kedrik as the capital is not final, there is another option on the table Vesture.

For the Empire I was thinking a single (two at most) syllable word. I couldn't think of one, but the more syllables you lose some of the power that can be associated with the word.

For example the army stands across the field staring you down. In unison they slap their chest producing a thundering sound. Then they speak, "FOR ____".

Setm Alkeindi is good because of it's meaning for the people, but for me it has too many syllables.

What does everyone else think?
