Another new religion. Well, actually more of a sect to be honest, seeing that it doesn't have that big a following and is a bit... esoteric. Anyway, hope you like it.

THE SINFREE
Introduction: The Sinfree believe that the Sins are actual entities that try to influence us and make us sin. There are only two ways to appease these vile creatures: sacrifice or indulgence.
Deities: The Sinfree operate with a series of entities, each named after the Sin they represent. The primary Sins are Wrath, Greed, Lust, Sloth, Hatred, Gluttony, Addiction, Deception, Arrogance.
Teachings: The general idea is that you can escape the hold of the Sins by either appeasing them through sacrifice, or by making them lose interest through indulgence. The sect often has a large building that they use to perform these Indulgence Rituals in. Examples of Indulgence Rituals might be orgies to appease Lust, Arena Battles for Wrath, evenings where you only lie for Deception, or wild nights of drinking to escape Addiction. Though some of these might seem self-contradictory to their purpose, they often end up being helpful since the believers' belief makes it easier to resist the temptation. Of course, sometimes they don't. Sacrifice is pretty straight-forward. The sacrifices are usually donated to the local temple, and might be used in the next Indulgence Ritual, or sold to fund it.
Structure: Each temple has a Ritual Master, often with a couple of acolytes, who set up the Indulgence Rituals and generally take care of the temple. They usually have a job on the side too, though, there is no real need for any superiors for anything other than the practical.
Influence: Most people have never heard of the Sinfree. Which is probably pretty good considering what they do in their temples. It's not a terribly secretive religion though, and it should be quite easy to find the local 'temple' if you look for it.
Mythology: The Sins are primeval beings who existed long before mankind. The Sins are believed to be incorporeal creatures of great power, who attempt to trick mortals to sin.

It's an interesting cult, and sounds like it would be a blast to belong to it.

The only thing I can't get over is the glaring contradiction in the fact that the indulgence rituals are a dramatic, over-the-top version of the sin they are supposed to resist...

This sounds to me like a kind of cult for the rich and famous where faith is used to both satisfy and deny human perversion and acolytes can delude themselves into thinking they're anything other than spineless scum-of-the-earth types.

Hostel[/i] (or worse!), maintaining enough public face to avoid the authorities while orgies of sex and slaughter go on behind the scenes.

Probably a lot darker than you had in mind, but this cult really does lend itself very easily to the darker side of human spirituality.  You don't even need a true demonic presence for some really funky shit to go on in a place like that.

The idea (as the believers see it) is, that by indulging yourself in this way, through the rituals, you use up your weekly "need" for that sin. So if you give the demon what he wants, then he won't come back for it later in the week.
But yeah, this sect could go real bad, real quick, though those few who actually believe in the tenets, probably try to regulate who can get in and what the rituals involve.
