Quote from: LlumAlright, so we went back to the Oracular Skull last session. Turns out it's going to answer a yes/no question we have. We don't have if it lies, if we can ask more than one question, or anything like that.

However any ideas/suggestions on what to ask it? Or we could just destroy it, since it's an evil undead abomination. Hamish is on the fence of what to do with it. Wurnik doesn't like it and Rampan wants to use it (surprise surprise).

This was session 50, BTW.  Something of a Milestone.

"Speak Petitioner, and have thy say, that I might answer, Yea or Nay..
Sainted Arbor dwells in planes unknown, hated by the very seeds his wisdom sown.  "

Celtricia and Guildschool are replete with constructs and bindings.  Unscrupulous necromancers use the souls of the unhriven, binding them to constructs, prepared bodies, or using the spirits for other spells.

Steel Isle is on for tonight.

The fear of the Cult of Death grows as the Explorers deal with the oracular skull!!!
The underworld of the Vexchian ruins opens wide to swallow them.

8:30PM, Eastern!

Session 51...
"Your Question has been answered, now ye are Thanatos' own", boomed the skull as the players left the strange room.
Good thing such useful questions had been asked, right?

The explorers left the room with the strange, horned, floating skull, and moved back into the chapel room, wherfe Carmen tripped on a string.  They negotiated the tricky path around the guardroom, back to the long east-est corridor (which Max finally noticed was sloping, east to west...)
they went back through the tiny secret door, back into the large temple room with the fissure, and across the wooden bridge the party made before.

On the way up the staircase beyond, Cameleye and Carmen both spotted a newly laid trap on a stair, and avoided it.  However, there was another one just beyond that flung pilums from huge crossbows bolted on to the ceiling of the staircase.  Wurnick neatly sidestepped, as Carmen tried to kick Rampan out of the way.
Clever, strange Rampan was impaled by a Pilum, that drove into his stomach gutting him.  Unfortunately, Carmen kicked him down the stairs at that point, in an [note] he took an additional 6 hits with a 1 divider...Ouch[/note] effort to save him, and he tumbled down 15' of stairs with a Pilum jammed in his stomach, leaving a smeared red trail as he fell.  He expired in front of the group, looking at Hamish and Vermortis strangely....
Carmen shrugged.

The group continued up the stairs, and went through the south door.

Always knew Rampan wouldn't make it to retirement.
I move quick: I'm gonna try my trick one last time--
you know it's possible to vaguely define my outline

A) Carmen was sent back to get his stuff
B) Carmen is a 2 and a half foot tall hobyt
C) Even with someone larger it would be better to leave his body and come back for it later
D) Rampan WAS rather disliked

Rampan was a pyromaniacal sociopath with overly-high self-esteem.  Very intelligent, he was also completely unaware of long term social effects.  He got extra spells from the local Collegium Arcana by lying about an association with a few high-ranking casters.  He also was given to Tourette's Syndrom (which seems to happen to Fire mages, for somre reason).
'Rather Disliked' is a good characterization of the overall opinion of Rampan the Red.   Wurnick felt a little bad for him, and his occasional enthusiasm was nioe, but I can see where his callousness and lack of concern for the well-being of others made him less than desirable as a companion.

He has a good cache with him.  I don't think I noted the comment about the body getting checked, since I was looking at his sheet after the adventure, and there is a lot there.  Regardless, the group is literally at the top of the same staircase.  Rampan's skewered, red robed, bloodstained body is still in sight.  He has the staff, some other little pieces, some scrolls, and a few other odds and ends, as well as his spellbook.

However, Hamish must now understand that the role of primary spellcaster seems to be falling in his lap.

Tonight, my People, the Steel Isle Group does the IRC dance.

Rampan the Red, combat caster and sometime anarchist, has passed into the twilight, his soul looks to make passage to the Well of Death...Yet the group continues into Vexcian unbowed, ready to plumb the depths of the ruined Venolvian stronghold.

8:30PM., eastern.
