[ooc]Alternate thread title: "1001 Ithyrian Nights"[/ooc]

Okay, lately the Jade Stage has been all talk, no action. It's time to change that! Seriously, let's play some games.

Here is my idea: I want to run several short (1-3 sessions each, maybe?) Jade Stage games online. Having short games lets me playtest the Jade FATE system some, potentially gives a lot of people the chance to join in, gives people the opportunity to participate without requiring them to block out a timeslot for a long period of time, and lets us tour different areas of the setting without "committing" to any one of them.

Does this appeal to anybody?

I am thinking of filling these various games in on Wednesdays or Thursdays, whichever night's not occupied with Vreeg's Steel Isle game at the time. The actual game (and roster of players) can change from one week to the next, as fast as we can resolve our little scenes.

Here are some of the li'l scenarios I've been mulling over. We can add to this list (of course), so let me know if you have other ideas that appeal to you.
- Locksmiths - You're part of a group of elite Locksmith agents, performing your most daring slave rescue raid yet.
- Troll Hunting - It's autumn in Degawa, and everybody knows what that means: time to thin out the population of local mountain trolls before their seasonal winter raids.
- Ithyrian Politics - Demolishing an upstart rival in front of the Council? It's all part of your decadent day-to-day life, because you're nobility in an Ithyrian Great House.
- Red Oath - Imperial tyrants have occupied your ancestral home for too long. Now is the time for the Red Oath rebels to evict the Empire from Brithen Isle!
- Wilding Expedition - There are lots of reasons to journey into the Wilding Fen-- for treasure, for infamy, for crime, for academic curiosity-- and also lots of reasons few such explorers are ever seen again.
- The Path of Earth - Like all adolescent boru, you knew you'd have to walk the Path of Earth one day. But this coming-of-age ritual just got a lot more complicated-- and dangerous.
- Discrete Dealings - Organized crime in the Rusted City. Minions of the Mighty Five have no shortage of enemies.

Argh, there's more, and I just can't put a finger on it yet. You got questions about the setting or the mechanics, ask me 'em.

Let's talk timeslots, let's do some character generation, let's let's let's

I am up for Thursday afternoons (after 3:30pm; 6:30pm EST). Can't do it if it's going to be on a Wednesday though.

Ishmayl-Retired

I could do Thursday evenings (after 7:00 PM EST), and would love to be a part if there's room.  Locksmiths sounds pretty awesome to me.

Bump for possible additional interest (??), though it's not really necessary-- we can do a little game with three players if you want.

Sounds like Thursdays after 7 PM EST is the way to go?

Superfluous Crow

Sounds interesting, but I'm not sure I can find the time for it. Also, 7 PM EST is sadly something like 1 AM GMT+1.

I'm still down for it (if you need any reconfirmation).  Thursday's literally the only night I have available anymore between band practice, and essentially running a local music academy.

I might be interested, I'll have to give Jade Stage a more in depth look.

7 PM EST on Thursdays would work for me, though.

Okay, let's get a li'l sumpin'-sumpin' set up for Thursdays nights, and (since it's the only one that's been mentioned so far) let's start with a Locksmiths game.

You interested folks, start thinking about character creation, and let's work on getting some characters up in this thread.

I will be glad to field questions about character creation (or any other part of the FATE system), or about the setting. Of course.

Gresh Yensai, Goblin scourge of the seas (with a heart of gold)

Portrait:

[spoiler]
[/spoiler]

Phase One: Background
As a goblin of the Hamia Tribe, Gresh Yensai was born into slavery and degradation in the nation of Nar-en-in.  Naturally cunning and intelligent, he soon proved himself a highly capable slave and was eventually promoted to the rank of Grand Slave by his om-beh-ral master, the notorious elf corsair Sharl, earning himself a jeweled collar inscribed with Sharl's name in the pure speech.  He eventually rose in the ranks to become captain first of the small ship Unpleasant Proclivities and then of the Pernicious Voluptuary, one of the largest and most dangerous vessels of Sharl's armada.  Despite his promotions Gresh never forgot his poor treatment when he was a mere low slave; a simmering hatred for the om-beh-ral of Nar-en-in festered inside him, checked only by his Master's Gift and by the constraints of his situation.  He cultivated a facade of loyalty, capitalizing on Sharl's lack of empathetic sense and dodging any hen-gan practioners who might discover his duplicity.
Aspects: Bloodthirsty Pirate, Exceptional Cunning

Phase Two:  Rite of Passage
During an extended naval battle with an Entámin fleet Sharl was slain.  Sharl lacked heirs, so Gresh was suddenly and unexpectedly freed; though his loyalty to his master was still compelled by his Gift he had no standing orders, and so was essentially free to make his own destiny.  After destroying the ship that attacked Sharl's with a cleverly positioned broadside, avenging his master's death, Gresh took the Pernicious Voluptuary to the nearest port.  He freed the low slave crew and had the Pernicious Voluptuary repainted as the newly named Unanticipated Liberty, hiring on many of the former crew.  His actions earned him the attention of the Locksmiths, who shadowed and then recruited him to their cause, finding in the former Grand Slave a unlikely mixture of compassion and ruthlessness.  Since then he has performed many daring raids and smuggling operations as part of the Locksmith efforts to free slaves.
Aspects: The good ship Unanticipated Liberty, Locksmith Agent

Phase Three: New Allies
To be added

Skills

Superb (+5): Sail
Great (+4): Leadership, Resolve
Good (+3): Marksmanship [Guns], Deceit, Intimidation
Fair (+2): Resources, Engineering, Weapons, Stealth
Average (+1): Burglary, Alertness, Contacting, Endurance, Athletics

Stunts

Personal Conspiracy (Leadership)
Sail by Night (Sail)
Stay on Target (Marksmanship/Guns)

Nomadic

I may need help creating my character as I don't know enough about the setting to spit one out (the jade stage wiki pages have me a bit lost). I do know a few things:

- I want to play a dwarven inventor
- I would like him to be a sorcerer if possible

For skills I was thinking something like:

+3 Mysteries
+2 Craftsmanship
+2 Resolve
+1 Rapport
+1 Infiltration
+1 Guns

Steerpike

If you search for the old Jade Stage thread there's a bit more info than is on the wiki, I think.

EDIT: Here's the link.  It's got some good info on the Dwarven nations.

You might think about making him a chreotech.  Perhaps from Kosel Parnath-Dakk, subterranean City of Wealth and Science?  Luminous Crayon, are the chreotechs purely engineers/mechanists or are some Sorcerers as well?

TheMeanestGuest

Character Creation has me confused, mostly on the number of skills and stunts to take. Do we take the amount as laid down in that official rulebook for FATE or whatever it's called that was linked in the other thread?
