Elven Doritos

You guys really came through with content for issue two, which will hopefully be out by the first weekend of October. It's going to be a great issue, and a special thanks goes out to all those who contributed.

We're starting to gear up for the next issue of the Guide already, now that the drafts are being sent to Meepo for compiling. We had a couple of great articles along the theme last month, and by popular decree, this month's theme is going to be:

[ic=Theme]Gods, Their Homes, and Their Servants[/ic]

That's right, the aim this month is to shoot for articles dealing with religion in campaign settings, deities, creation myths, and the planes themselves.

As always, content outside of the theme is accepted eagerly and appreciated, but articles that follow the theme will take precedence over those that don't.

Feel free to discuss below.
Oh, how we danced and we swallowed the night
For it was all ripe for dreaming
Oh, how we danced away all of the lights
We've always been out of our minds
-Tom Waits, Rain Dogs

Hibou

I'd definitely like to add a strange deity into this issue, if I can find time to do it.

Hmm. I like the theme. Someone really needs to do a rant article about the insane number of Gods in D&D.

Just my opinion of course...

I might have another reivew.  Might is the operative word, however.

If I contribute to this issue I'm probably going to step away from reviews, unless someone really wants to see a review of Deities & Demigods...

If I had Dei&Demi with me, I would review it, but I'd also be rather...umm...harsh is a good word. Possible articles I'm considering, I'd love to hear what you all want me to write:

1) A discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of a setting with distant gods vs. the very personal gods of DnD

2) Implementing monotheism in a DnD setting - how to do it, both flavor and mechanical

3) A fully made doomsday cult to drop into your setting.

4) Making divine magic interesting while powering down the cleric and druid.

Or something else that comes to mind.

When are these articles due again? I have a lot of ideas...:P

Sometime in the latter part of October. Let's pencil in the 27th.

Interesting. If I have time, i'll write up an article about flavourful clerics in a setting without tangible gods (dealing with gods purely as an abstract idea, maybe, and possibly a little bit about deifying unusual things, like toaster ovens or swords). In any case, i'll take a second thorough look at Deities and Demigods, as well as other books.
‘Yes, one may live while never leaving their domicile. But then, they aren’t really alive. Exploring, adventuring, becoming a mercenary - whatever one may call it, it is the blood of the world that many are embracing now. Our reach is advanced nearly everyday, and the stars themselves are in our grasp. That is why I, and many others, continue to learn as we do.’

I don't mind if you take that one. I have another article which I'd happily do.

However, if you want we could do a rant-battle. Sort of a "who says it better" if you will.

Well.

I have one article as of right now. It's probably because of the lateness of issue 2, due to circumstances beyond our control, and an artifical deadline set too far in advance with no reminders.

Is *anyone* currently working on articles? That could be done anytime reasonably soon? I ask because, if not, then we can stretch the timescale from a monthly format, or push the deadline to a different date.

If we want to do a monthly publication, we're going to have to hustle with these articles for the next week or so.

I should have an essay on elves up in a day or two. I could have had it in by today, but I knew you'd push the deadline anyway, so I figured I'd make it a litle nicer.

Ishmayl-Retired

Maybe we should do a bit of a round-table on possible article ideas?  For instance, I would say "It sure would be neat to have an article on deities' chosen weapons, and maybe also unique weapons that the deities themself use."  And someone like Mr-Weapons-Man would come along and say, "Hey, I'm pretty good at that stuff!  I can write an article on that!"  Thoughts?
