Quote from: LlumAfter looking over the first post, the system is pretty interesting. I like how you can choose which kind of defense your going to put up, block/dodge and stuff.

I'm not convinced the numbers of DR are perfect, but that's really a moot point without play testing.

The point that Polycarp! brings up is valid, when given the choice, it kinda defeats the purpose of the DR, for multi-type weapons. However personally I don't think you should be able to "choose" which damage happens, randomizing each hit would be a hassle though.
Most multiple damage type systems (sla/Ma/thr) assume best case scenario weapon vs armor.  The strength of this system makes more limited weapons function properly against their respective enviroments, in that rapiers suddenly become useful in towns but not in real melees, mashing weapons came back into their own against heavily armored folks, etc.

I think having multitype weapons would be acceptable so long as you took it into account - what I think should be avoided is a direct port of, say, the D&D weapons roster without considering how type DR changes weapon balance.  I don't think it's necessary to randomize hits or split damage between multiple types so long as the designer is conscious of the advantage a multi-type weapon gives.

Here's another question about armor DR systems: what about creatures, many of whom don't wear armor?  Do they have a standard DR regardless of type?  Do bears use "hide" while dragons use "scale?"  It's easy to split worn armor into a few different types, but making different type DR for each creature (or even each category of creatures) could easily become a daunting task.

you just need to notate the type of traditional armor the hide or exoskeleton acts like.

Went to DR/Protection back in the early 80's.
Just want to add 2 cents letting anyone who is thinking of dabbling with it that it is the best mechanism for allowing a DM to go to a more relaistic, lower HP and more deadly game.
