Well just to note, I started on the wiki. Then I ground to a complete halt. This Creative Commons Liscence (CCL). I'm extremely wary of things like this (almost paranoidly so). I like the forums because it bluntly states that whatever I post is my own stuff, no matter what (as long as its not copyright infringement).

Also the ability for other people to edit my stuff makes me very wary. However as far as I can tell I'll be able to track whoever edits my stuff which is nice. I guess it just comes down to my paranoia in the end :p

A campaign setting page for each member could be useful, as long as it was really really easy to use. Like... posting on a forum easy (you just type stuff and hit post... sure there's tags, but there's also buttons at the top for just about everything).

If you could do something like that, I'd absolutely love it.

I think that would be useful, Ishy.

I think possible even more useful would be to have the "recent forum posts" list on the main thread also display recent Wiki changes, mixed right in. (Perhaps with the option to filter out the list, so as to view only forum posts or only wiki posts when looking for a particular thing.)

Also, boo on the suspected idea parasites. Bad form.

Edit:

Reasons why This is Not Something You Need to Worry About[/u], a short presentation by LC

1.) All previous versions of a page are saved. You can always easily revert back to a page's previous version, undoing any potential editing mischief someone may have caused.

2.) All wiki changes are logged, so if someone is bothering your pages, you will know who it is. Ishmayl and other admins will be swift to ban any troublemakers (as we have recently seen, with a brief bout of wiki graffiti (all on brand new pages, not people's setting information) that was cleaned up (and the perpetrators' accounts removed) even before I noticed it existed.

3.) Unwanted wiki editing has never ever been a problem since we started the wiki, and I don't expect it to start.

4.) Wiki editability allows us to help each other, by correcting typos, fixing category pages and broken links, and so on. I edited other people's pages extensively to redirect links when Sparkletwist implemented her wonderful new link template (as did several others), and I've had my own pages helpfully fixed for numerous structural improvements. This is a benefit.

5.) Wiki security is an idea that is already in the works. We've been kicking around various ideas to give wiki users the option to protect their pages from others' editing, and I'm sure these ideas have not been abandoned (I suspect they're part of CBG2.0). It's coming along.

Llum,
The Creative Commons License very clearly states a much better protection for you than my little statement at the bottom of this page (perhaps I should fix that someday?).  You own the full copyright to any work you put up on the wiki, however, by nature of the internet (being so public and all), you are allowing other people to take your work and share it if they see fit to do so (which they can also do with any forum posts you make anywhere, or any essays you write for school).  However, unlike when not having a License at all, those other people who take your work MUST, by design of the License, give you full Attribution, not collect any sort of money for your work, and may not make any sort of modifications to your work without your express permission.  Quite frankly, it's basically telling you what all amateur writers tell you about their own stuff, but this is legally binding, so no one can screw you.  It really is in-and-for your own benefit and interest that this License was adopted.  Otherwise, with no legal binding, anything you posted anywhere (even here on the forums) could be taken by someone else, changed to that person's own liking, and sold for a profit at your sorrow, and you couldn't really do much about it.  On the wiki, there is a dated timestamp for anything you add, so if there's ever a dispute, you will always be able to prove that you were the original author.  It's win-win all around, really.

I wish I could send a lawyer to every single person on the site to explain to them the benefits of such a license, but I guess you'll have to just trust the word of me, all the members using the License, and the literal millions of artists, authors, songwriters, creators, etcetera who use similar Licenses to protect their hard work.

I hope to see you continue putting things on the wiki.

Thanks for that, I hope other people will find that useful as well.  LC, that's pretty much the plan we have for it, the main page will have several different feeds on it to show recent updates in a particular author's preferred internet media format (wiki, forum, something else).

Cheers!

Yeah, I was a little eeehhh about the Wiki's Creative Commons license, but only until I actually learned what it means and what it does.

It kicks ass, and is awesome, and I have absolutely no worries or reservations about the information I have on the wiki, under that license.

Edit: I want to call attention to this, because it is important:

not only[/i] has the site's administration already seen the need for whatever I thought of before I even mentioned anything, but frequently they also take things a few blocks farther down Awesome Street.

This site's administration is

so cool.

I hope to start using the wiki for at least one, maybe both worlds. I'm just not wiki savvy and that intimidates me in using it. I don't want to mess mine or anyone else entry up.

Llum, just so you know, we didn't get to the wiki this weekend, because we just had a big, awesome breakthrough on the CBG2.0 and worked on it.  However, getting a WYSIWYG editor set up properly on the wiki is the next thing on our agenda, and I'm hoping to be able to get it going tomorrow during my day off.

Wiki "coding" is not too difficult, really. I personally find coding a body of text to be posted on the wiki to be easier than coding a body of text, using bbcode, to be similarly displayed on this forum. I'll be glad to answer any specific questions you may run across. (Sparkletwist and Ishmayl would also be great sources for you-- I hate to volunteer their help, but they're better at it than me.)

It's really hard to actually mess anything up on the wiki. Any page can be "reverted" to any previous version of that page whenever you like, undoing any number of changes that may be undesirable. Also, you'd have a tough time doing anything to the Jade Stage wiki presence (for example) unless you were actually editing Jade Stage pages in complicated ways (if you just want to correct my typos or something, mind you, I'm fine with that. That's one of the nice things about group-editability.)

If you are having trouble getting things looking the way you want them to, or if you're worried you've caused a rare problem, somebody will be glad to help you fix it.

And I must request quite emphatically that this editor be optional and easily turnable-offable. I'm a sysop on another mediawiki with a WYSIWYG editor and it is nothing but trouble.

Oh, it'll be set up as a gadget that anyone can turn off or on in their preferences.  I prefer the standard mark-up too, so I certainly wouldn't sacrifice my own usability. :) :)
