I think that it is going to be pretty loose. You can ask questions as you please, though the host is free to halt questions until he can answer the current ones.

Quote from: IshmaylSecondly, have you guys worked out any sort of format for the event?  You may not need one, but sometimes it helps to guide people in these types of events.  Procedure does usually help, after all!
This is probably going to be one of those things we get a handle on after we've done one or two Q&A sessions. Unless the crowd is a lot bigger than I expect it to be (which would be wonderful-- don't get me wrong!), I think a casual, laid-back atmosphere (just like our normal chat) would work fine.

Pretty much this. If it doesn't work well, we'll think up something different for next time, but I don't anticipate problems.

I can't make a Sat session either, but I'd be curious to see a transcript. Cross-posting to the forums sounds interesting.

Good point about the transcript - anyone here know how to handle that?

Pick me! Pick me!

Most IRC clients have an option to automatically log conversations. (In mIRC, these settings are easy to find in the Options menu, under IRC -> Logging.) You can pick a folder to which conversations are automatically saved as txt files, and if you browse the logs through mIRC (rather than just combing through the folder) they are arranged by server, channel, and who you're talking to (in the case of individual messages.) I have logs of #theCBG chat that go back for weeks and weeks; it's trivially easy to cut and paste a Q&A from these logs into a thread.

In fact, I may spend some time formatting it so that it looks more like the transcript of an interview and less like a chatlog, but that depends entirely on my own workload.

All the regulars unable to attend on Saturday are giving me second thoughts about the date, but honestly I'm not sure what would be better.

At this point it's still on for Saturday, but if anyone has any suggestions for a reschedule date that would accommodate more people, I'm open to them.

Like I said, no need to do any rescheduling for my benefit - I'm sure I can find a way to enjoy you guys' company at other times.  However, since you asked, generally, Sunday afternoons and evenings (EST) are my best time for goofin' for long periods of time on the intrawebz.

Ishy is there any other day that you are regularly available cause I would love to attend yours/hang with you more on there. But Sunday is pretty much no good for me. I sometimes can get on but I can't guarantee anything for that day.

Polycarp

There's no way to schedule this without excluding somebody, so I will say that if more people post that they can make it on Sunday than people who can't, I'll change it to the 8th.  I have to consider this in terms of net gain, but unless a Sunday date gets us more people than we would lose, it's going to remain Saturday.

So basically, post if a Saturday/Sunday change would affect your ability to attend (if you haven't already).

Nah nah nah, don't change it for me. Seriously.

Nomadic, there are other days that work for me, but they're just not "set-in-stone" days that I pretty much always have available.  For instance, generally, Monday evenings EST would be decent for me, as well as Wednesday evenings EST, but both of those evenings, occasionally, I am jamming with my band.

Don't forget that this takes place tomorrow, Saturday the 7th, at 2:00 PST (5:00 for us east-coasters).

Thanks to everyone who got on IRC today.  We had a good time, and I got a lot of quality feedback and ideas.  So how do we decide who goes next?
