ReVitalizing CeBeGia

Okay, here's the deal.  There are just too many creative minds here to let this awesome project die and fade away into obscurity.  We have a whole forum devoted to the Community Project, plus, we have a Wiki devoted to the project (though we have also added other projects to the wiki).  So there's a few things we need to get done.

First, I think we need to revisit the core ethos and our goal for this project.  I think Core Ethos is a good idea, but I honestly don't think it's the end-all be-all of making a campaign (setting) work.

Then, we need to go over the history and figure out what we like, and what we don't like.  I don't know how much of the history we want to set in stone yet, because to me, it seems as though the history wouldn't be a major priority for the first steps.

I'm also giving a bit of thought to whether or not we should start off with a few adventure ideas.  One of the ways I came up with Shadowfell was by creating a "first" adventure for PCs, and expanding from there.  It's almost like the Inside-Out method so often described in Dragon magazine and on various web sites on campaign creation, except it starts even smaller. Instead of starting with one region, you start with basically one adventure site, and build from there.  I think we could make something work with that.

I'm stickying this thread, but I want people to talk this up in here and see if we can figure anything out on how to kickstart CeBeGia again (which will definitely eventually need a name change ;) )

You know I was just thinking about CeBeGia today. Are you guys tapped into my brain again? This weekend I am hoping to have some free time, so I was going to look over it to catch myself up.

That's a good first step... anyone interested in working this project a bit, don't forget to give yourself a refresher course on everything written thus far; you won't be able to like or dislike anything if you don't know what we're talking about :)

I am totally up for that.  I didn't do anything for CeBeGia before, but I'm interested now.  I'm going to read over the ol' threads; give myself some ideas.

yeah, that's what I've been doing on-and-off for the last few hours... I have just about all of it read now.

Okay, I think we can say that what the Wiki has in it is pretty much up to date with everything that people agreed on.  So, if you want to know where the project stands currently, check it out!

If there are any disputes or disagreements on anything posted there yet, let's start talking about them.  I'm not 100% set in stone on anything yet, but I mostly like what we have up thus far.

In the interest of the project, I came up with this simple adventure site.
Large country house with garden, a tiny roadside inn, a well, a bridge, a windmill, and a magic stone circle.

Xeviat

What is the general concensus for CeBeGia? Is it going to be a kitchen sink setting like Eberron or Forgotten Realms, where everything ever published is allowed within it, or is it going to be an original setting using only the SRD and OGL materials plus materials of our own creation?

Do we want the setting to be generic, and thus accessable, or unique, and thus thought provoking?

I'm more than willing to create any crunch we need. I've said before that I'd prefer the setting to be less kitchen sink and more concise, but I'm not sure if that's still the concensus.

Ishmayl-Retired

Well, part of our discussion should determine that, Xeviat.  I'll go ahead and put in my vote.  I think that, as far as mechanics go, it should be SRD/OGL plus homebrew.  Meaning, we stick with the generics for races, classes, skills, feats, spells, magic system, etc, and can add all-original material.

Ravenspath

I'm a newcomer here, but I have to say what I have seen so far about CeBeGia has really impressed me. I have only read the original Core Ethos thread and will read the others after this post, but I want to say that I am interested in putting in my thoughts and try to get this off the ground further. I love world building almost as much as I love playing, but I've never really had the chance to do as much of it as I would like so I hope to be of some help here. Please let me know if there is a specific area that needs focus, otherwise I will just add in my random thoughts as I see fit.
