I support Corn's thingy/blender, but i still think there should be some "rumors" of super weapon that would be ammased if some person/mass amounts of people/whatever manage to forge the 9 demiplanes back into one plane.

I kinda prefer the rings being kept up by magic rather than them being the source. What if the rings were magically reflective, and simply rebounded and concentrated magical energy that is 'leaking' off of the planet? That would make it appear that the magic's coming from the rings, but in reality it isn't.

That would also open up a whole new area of magical study, orbisology, the study and science of the rings. Predicting where, when, and from what point the rings will concentrate energy could be a tactical advantage, as well as being able to 'block' magic half a planet away and have that affect magic at your target. How we would work that into a set of crunch is beyond me.

Hmm...after several seconds of semi-not-deep-thought, me likey. We could even make a mini-school thing all about reflection and stuff (inder abjuration/conjuration maybe)

But that would require us to do some altering of the magic system inherantly, which we've so-far been reluctant to do.

Yes. But, if we're still working on Hapazzard casting, wait nevermind. It requires more work anyway we do it.

haphazzard casting does not belong in Cebegia. It's too experimental, and it doesn't fit the flavor.

Yeah. I was just making an off topic suggestion thingy.

Actually... the idea of reflection seems pretty awesome. And since this is DnD, all we need is a unique PrC for the "new school" bit.

Just a conspiracy of cartographers, then?

I agree, the reflection of the magic is a very nice idea. We could even play off of that in a few other ways down the line.

1) why is the planet 'leaking' so much magic
2) is it possible to reflect magic on the planet's surface (this could lead to high and low magic areas either created by nature or by the races

1) perhaps all planets leak so much, and the only reason that you can do magic here is that it IS being reflected, ie the natural runnoff won't do it.
2)You mean artificially? Reflect more than what is being reflected, and focus it? I forsee some seriously powerful magical weapons if we go this way.

Your explanation for number one is a very good explanation how magic exists!

What if the technology to focus or diffuse magic has been lost? Pre first empire magic skills that have been destroyed, forgotten, banished or something. That would limit the number of such items.

Just throwing ideas out there.

I'm not too sure I like the reflection idea. It's decent flavor, but there's just one thing I have a hard time wrapping my mind around, mecahnically:

The bored mage who shoots spells straight into the sky, "just 'cause". If the rings reflect magic, wouldn't that cause the magical effects to occur in some random location? Should random magical effects be incorporated into the environment because of this? If not, then why not, and if so, then how?

No. No. Because the rings only reflect unworked magic...

See, now we're streching it. Unless we add some component into actual spells that the rings cant reflect back.
